Members of the Jamaican Diaspora moved from conference dialogue to community service on Thursday, June 18, joining local partners in projects across Jamaica as part of the Jamaica Diaspora Day of Service, a key component of the 11th Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference.

The Day of Service mobilised volunteers through 22 projects spanning healthcare, education and community development, with several initiatives focused on western Jamaica as communities continue recovery and rebuilding efforts following Hurricane Melissa.

In St. James, Diaspora volunteers partnered with local stakeholders on projects in Catherine Hall, including work to improve the learning environment at Dudley Grant Memorial Trust Basic School through mural restoration, repainting and tree planting. Volunteers also supported a medical mission at the Catherine Hall Health Centre, where residents accessed health screenings, primary care services and health education.
