Texans did everything right. They registered to vote through DPS. But their applications weren’t processed properly.

Abbott must give counties the resources to fix this mess. We deserve answers about how this happened and why it wasn’t caught sooner.

We have long advocated for people only registering directly through your local elections office but this is still absolutely egregious. It will be truly be nearly impossible for these counties to process this many voter registrations in two weeks. And the fun doesn't stop there:

During the primary we had people who registered to vote THREE MONTHS before the election - through a voter deputy registrar - and still weren't on the voter rolls by March because the Secretary of State itself couldn't handle its literal job to process the registrations.

This is outrageous.

Also as any county chair and elections administrator in the state knows, NO ONE is feeling better about the people who build & maintain TEAM running this show. That software which runs our state elections is an absolute dumpster fire and I'm furious that we are relying on this software group to manage this crisis.

Please, please vote out everyone who manages this state so we can fix literally everything.

Political campaigns should give people reasons to support their candidates, not reasons to fear their neighbors.

People of every faith and people of no faith should be able to participate fully in our democracy without an entire community being treated as suspicious because of its religion.

We can condemn antisemitism without embracing Islamophobia. We can confront extremism without assigning collective guilt.

Dehumanization does not become acceptable because it is politically useful.

I had no idea San Antonio had its own version of this story until this morning.

When I first attended USC in LA, I remember first hearing the painful, now famous history of Chavez Ravine-how an entire Mexican-American community was displaced to build Dodger Stadium.

Meanwhile in San Antonio, just one year after Dodger stadium opened, 92 acres just east of downtown SA were seized via "urban renewal" for HemisFair '68.

Over 1,300 homes and businesses- a tight-knit community of Mexican-American, Black, German, and Polish families-were just bulldozed. An unreal fact for Spurs fans: part of what went up on that razed neighborhood was HemisFair Arena, the Spurs' home from 1973 to 1993 where I later watched the Iceman play. Share this. It's Important history that shouldn’t be forgotten. 🕊️🏛️

I got tired of opening a textbook and not seeing diverse patients in it.

Every clinical illustration I study from, every atlas I flip through, shows the same default: light skin, every time. Rashes, lesions, cyanosis, jaundice, etc — all rendered the way they present on one skin tone, as if that’s the only way they present at all.

That’s not a small oversight. A finding that’s textbook-obvious on light skin can be genuinely hard to catch on melanin-rich skin if you’ve never been shown what it looks like there. That gap isn’t cosmetic — it’s diagnostic. It delays care. It costs people.

So we set out to build something different!

Today is Women’s Equality Day, marking the ratification of the 19th Amendment.

But here's the part of the story that deserves more attention:

The amendment said women couldn't be denied the vote because of sex.

It did not erase poll taxes.

It did not erase literacy tests.

It did not stop voter intimidation.

It did not stop racist election laws.

For Black women, the fight continued.

Simply put, Dolly Parton was an American original. She was an inspiration to millions. She was a relentless advocate for women and for equality. Through her Imagination Library, she placed the gift of reading into the hands of millions of children because she understood literacy is the foundation of opportunity.

But perhaps most importantly, Dolly treated everyone with kindness and respect. She lived her values with a flair and vitality for life that was uniquely her own. She was a trailblazer in every sense of the word, and she will be missed by millions around the world.
