The housebuilding industry is so broken, with bad practice, misselling, corruption, greed, incompetence, no enforced standards of quality aided and abetted by the government policy of numbers built, no Minister is prepared to disrupt it to put it right. Sad but true.

The office is a controlled environment, home is not. Hard to assess the welfare of employees if you never see them. (There is also the issue of who is doing the work)

@dannybster The only way to combat this is for homebuyers to refuse to buy leasehold or fleecehold. Unsold developments impact on developers. They need to feel the financial pain.

@DavidHowla15234 @CHinchliffMP It is fair to say building deregulation continued under Labour as well. also the way the construction industry developed into lots of small employers and one man bands was due to the introduction of Selective Employment Tax by the Wilson Government in 1966.

@dannybster There was no building safety regulator overseeing the construction process.
The industry excelled at shifting risk from the most able part of the construction process, the clients and the main contractors, to the supply chain and the least able to manage the risks.

You held dinners where developers and lobbyists were given access to you for £2000 over some curry. You represent the worst of what it means to be a politician and quite frankly, we are glad to see the back of you.
