@SpannersReady Do you think you cannabolize some of your ratings by going on the ringer? Iโm one of the few sickos who will listen to both the ringer and missed apex butโฆjust a thought!
What a wonderful job the team at Mercedes has done. After 2.5 years of significant challenges with some misdirection, it finally seems that the team is back. There were moments today where they genuinely were the fastest car on track. Rest of season should be spicy!
Obviously a long way to go here, but it's remarkable what Mercedes has been able to do to turn the car around this year. They started with the 5th fastest car and are now absolutely on it. Bravo to James Allison and the team
Perez has to go. He just is not up to the challenge anymore. Perhaps he can get a seat at a lower tier team, but he is dearly costing Red Bull too much
Today's race sets up some excitement for the rest of the year. But importantly, sets the stage for a 2021 like 2025 with both Max and Lando fighting it out. Hopefully Merc can keep progressing and be in the mix, perhaps with George.
Aston Martin has been terrible since the first half of last year. Surely has to be frustrating for them to see McLaren and Mercedes totally reinvent themselves after AMR started so strong last year. Have they gone backwards or reached the peak of their development curve?
Verstappen absolutely on it this weekend. Race pace for McLaren looked good this morning, but I would be shocked if he didn't win.
P1: Max
P2: Lando
P3: Piastri

McLaren was running just the single new front wing in FP1, swapping between cars. The second arrived minutes ago and will be fitted on both cars for Sprint Qualifying.
It feels that McLaren and Red Bull are now just about equal and fine margins / difference come down to skill of Max Verstappen.
I'm so excited for 2025 already, where hopefully there is a title fight between Lando and Max.
It's such an unfortunate position that Sainz is in. He deserves the 2nd Red Bull or AMR seats. He is too good right now to have to deal with the mess that is Alpine. Williams has not shown enough this year and Sauber has gone backwards before becoming Audi. #F1
Formula 1 team valuations have exploded over recent years.
The best teams (Ferrari, Mercedes, and Red Bull) are now worth $2 billion to $3 billion each, while even the worst teams (Williams and Haas) are now approaching $1 billion valuations.
2023 F1 Team Valuations (h/t @Sportico)
1. Ferrari: $3.13 billion
2. Mercedes: $2.7 billion
3. Red Bull: $2.42 billion
4. McLaren: $1.56 billion
5. Aston Martin: $1.14 billion
6. Alpine: $1.08 billion
7. Visa Cash App Red Bull: $905 million
8. Kick Sauber: $815 million
9. Williams: $800 million
10. Haas: $710 million
Many people say this is because...
โข Drive to survive has attracted millions of fans
โข New races in Miami and Las Vegas are super lucrative
โข More revenue at the parent company is flowing down to the teams
This all plays a part, but the real reason is the cost cap.
Previously, the best Formula 1 teams operated on uncapped budgets, spending upwards of $400 million annually to build the best car.
But now that Liberty Media has introduced the cost cap, Formula 1 teams can only spend up to $135 million annually (excluding driver salaries).
This has transitioned Formula 1 to a more sustainable model that mirrors what we see in American sports leagues like the NFL and NBA.
And with annual revenues continuing to grow through bigger media rights deals and larger sponsorship contracts, the ability to forecast fixed annual expenses has turbocharged Formula 1 team valuations.
