The scale of pollution in UK rivers is undeniable.

The Angling Trust’s Water Quality Monitoring Network has collected over 12,000 water samples across the country, revealing persistent nutrient pollution and declining river health.

Anglers are witnessing these problems first-hand and collecting the data to prove it.

The findings have been highlighted in @thetimes, bringing more attention to the crisis facing UK rivers.

A small waterfall on the Scouring Burn as it passes through Laighills Park. To the right of the falls is the paddling pool - once a hive of activity. An attempt by community volunteers to clear the pool was halted by S.E.P.A. and the Forth District Salmon Fishery Board in 2021.

Kate O'Neil, Marine Biologist, was lucky enough to spot a #swordfish in the Firth of Forth yesterday: "I was really excited when I realised we were watching a swordfish, a species that (to the best of our knowledge) has only been recorded in Scotland a handful of times!"
