A photo study is a rehearsal for creation — the steps should be the same.
When copying a photo, jumping into details right away is clearly a mistake,because that's not how we approach things when we're actually creating.

Here’s the process I tried:
Step 1: Block out the light and shadow shapes — this is essentially the composition.
Step 2: Add local colors while adjusting the transitions between light and dark.
