Houston is expected to hire Bennie Wylie as its new strength and conditioning coach, a source tells @247Sports.
Wylie, a Texas native, has made previous stops at USC, Oklahoma and Texas. He left USC last year and was most recently working at Huntsville HS in Texas.
University of Houston coach Kelvin Sampson says guard Kordel Jefferson earned being one of the first subs in for season opener with how hard he practiced. "I don't think you have any credibility as a coach unless practice matters," Sampson says. "Practice matters. You've got an opportunity to help yourself in practice. Kordel had a great week of practice (before the opener).
"We've got some other guys having great weeks of practice this week that I'm going to reward. But every day is a competition. We're competing every day. . . There are certain guys that stand out to me by giving maximum effort and embracing pain. Embracing hard."
