Very happy with how this went. One teammate asked me about a technical thing with a combo and was having trouble with, so we worked it together after class and I got to see her have that “aha!” moment. Highlight of my week.
In a surprising instance of questionable judgment, coach asked me to substitute teach Muay Thai tonight @FoundationChic2 😜 🥊 come thru for shenanigans
My Father Roberto got me into Jiu-Jitsu at age 15 in 1999 because he wanted his son to learn how to defend himself. In 2017 we started @FoundationChic2 because we wanted to train colonized peoples & their allies to defend themselves. Training the martial arts in a supportive community is one of the most fun ways to spend one's time, but this isn't a game. We train people whose very existence is under constant attack, every day. We train people to fight for their lives & to stand up for those who are more vulnerable, because using Jiu-Jitsu for anything else is mercernary, childish, & not fit for the world we live in. We could use your support. https://t.co/bH2Cp1zsaX Thank you to The Washington Post for covering our work. https://t.co/9iZPS51g60
I got to be a judge for t-boy wrestling in Portland last week and it was super fun. I really like the black and white group shot from the end of the show. I look good here.
