I always love when these stories pop up because it's always just alpha radiation. Your smoke detectors in your house have the same thing. Alpha radiation isn't even strong enough to penetrate a piece of paper.

In 1947, children could order a toy containing real radioactive material from the back of a Kix cereal box for just 15 cents and a box top.

The Lone Ranger Atomic Bomb Ring contained a tiny amount of polonium-210, allowing kids to look through a lens and watch real radioactive particles create flashes of light.

Although the amount used was considered safe when sealed inside the ring, it contained the same radioactive element later used to poison Alexander Litvinenkoin 2006.

Today, the rings are no longer radioactive enough to produce the glowing effect.
