I could have kept walking. I could have been ‘on time.’ But I didn’t.
And in that decision, I remembered: this is what leadership is all about. It’s about showing up. It’s about being present, even when you’re juggling a thousand things.
As principals, it’s so easy to get wrapped up in the demands of our roles, to get caught up in the pressures of ‘doing.’
But moments like these—when a student reaches out, not for anything academic, but for a hug, a connection—that’s what truly matters.
I almost missed this moment… almost. The day was packed—meetings, emails, decisions to make. I was rushing down the hallway when I heard it. His voice, calling my name. In that instant, everything else paused.
