The more I’m tinkering, the more I’m leaning towards having Haaland as my 12th man MD1, getting Havertz in and upgrading a mid to Raphinha.
Would mean I have Raph for MD2 but also means no Kane until I WC in MD3.

Here’s my updated #WorldCupFantasy draft:
I will post my final team on Thursday, a couple of hours before the start of the World Cup.
---
Team structure:
GK: Galindez (ECU) – X
DEF: Kimmich – ESP defender – SUI defender – COL defender – X
MID: Wirtz – Musiala – Raphinha – Bruno – X
FWD: Oyarzabal – Haaland – X
Notes:
- This draft leaves a position open to be creative in GK, DEF, MID, and FWD
-I’ve saved 3.7m ITB for two booked transfers for MD2, see chip strategy below
- Open GK spot: Scouting bonus is a must here; currently leaning towards Nyland or Crepeau
- Open DEF spot: Currently preferring a URU or NOR defender, either Olivera, Varela, or Møller Wolfe
- Open MID spot: Here, I want to go for a punt with scouting bonus: James (COL), Sabitzer (AUT), or Vargas (SUI)
- ESP defender: Currently leaning towards Cucurella, but if Laporte’s ownership stays below 5%, I might go for him
-SUI defender: Elvedi looks most nailed, but Widmer and Rodriguez are options too
- COL defender: It’s between D. Sanchez and Mojica
---
I’ve used data from @TheFantasyTool_, @FPLSchaden, and @elevenify, and taken notes from them to put the team together.
All the players in the above team structure are among those with the highest projected points.
I’ve also discussed the team in detail with fantasy football expert @FplOmar31.

Chip strategy:
MD1: None
MD2: 12th Man (Mbappé). Planned transfers: Musiala & Wirtz --> Vini Jr & Olisé (🔥)
MD3: Wildcard
R32: Qualification Booster. Later stages: Maximum Captain & Mystery Chip
12th Man in MD2 is locked for me. It essentially acts as an extra transfer between MD1 & MD2, offering flexibility for the draft.

Again looking forward to hear your thoughts on chip strategy, players I might have overlooked, and more 🤗

In World Cup Fantasy, the rules state that midfielders get +1 for every 2 chances created.
Let's assume they mean big chances created.
Here are the midfielders who created the most big chances across all of Europe's top 5 leagues this season:
Bruno Fernandes - 🇵🇹 - 32
Michael Olise - 🇫🇷 - 28
Lamine Yamal - 🇪🇸 - 23
Rayan Cherki - 🇫🇷 - 16
Romano Schmid - 🇦🇹 - 16
Declan Rice - 🏴 - 15
Luis Diaz - 🇨🇴 - 15
Yeremi Pino - 🇪🇸 - 15
Charles De Ketelaere - 🇧🇪 - 15
Morgan Rogers - 🏴 - 14

Here’s my updated #WorldCupFantasy draft:
With the present draft, I plan the following chip strategy:
MD1: None
MD2: 12th Man (Mbappé)
MD3: Wildcard
R32: Qualification Booster
Later stages: Maximum Captain & Mystery Chip
I’ve decided that the Maximum Captain chip is probably best used later on, and importantly, the fixtures of the squad are spread out so nicely that I won’t need to get up in the middle of the night (CEST) to change captaincy at any point, at least for MD1.
---
Compared to my initial draft, I have made the following changes:
GK:
Rangel --> Galindez
DEF:
Porro --> Kimmich
Munoz --> Wesley
Widmer --> Elvedi
MID:
Unchanged
FWD:
Havertz --> Embolo
---
With rumors emerging that Ochoa may be the starting keeper in the first match of the World Cup, Rangel is no longer an option. Similarly, Porro vs Llorente for the Spain RB spot is a 50:50 call, and Elvedi is slightly more nailed than Widmer. I also didn’t like having 3 COL players in the very last fixture of the matchday, so Wesley was an obvious swap for Munoz.
The midfield seems pretty locked.
I needed to find a replacement for Havertz with a brilliant MD1 fixture, and I reluctantly went for Embolo with two big ifs: 1) his ownership must not pass the 5% scouting bonus, and 2) he’s not been allowed to travel to the US yet (😅).
I still left exactly 2.0m ITB for a booked MD2 transfer (Musiala --> Vini Jr), and I will still use the 12th Man chip on Kylian Mbappé in MD2, both suggested by @TheFantasyTool_ transfer solver 👏
If all my players stay fit, my second MD2 transfer will be a luxury transfer (most likely Embolo --> Enner Valencia), giving me a brilliant captaincy option vs Curacao.
Again looking forward to hear your thoughts on chip strategy, players I might have overlooked, and more 🤗

(This took a while to put together 😅)
I’ve had the exact same thoughts - and this draft actually offers the opportunity to keep the Maximum Captain chip until later.
I plan to use it in GW1, though, as:
- I’ve stacked up on the same teams instead of spreading out the picks, as I’m not going to change captains for every match in the middle of the night
- The upside in MD1 is ~20 points compared to a late knockout match ~10-12 points
