#BigBarLandslide Update: A limited number of #Chinook salmon are using the fish passage to migrate naturally past the landslide area. https://t.co/sSAde4up6b
#BigBarLandslide Update: 2 scaling crews spent the day drilling the cliff rockface in preparation for controlled blasting. The explosions will create large boulders, some over 4m wide, which will then be strategically placed to create a natural fish ladder https://t.co/ptrZI21rkQ
Rock explosions are dramatic, and while it looks like this would be dangerous to the #fish below, they can hear and sense the impact of falling debris and quickly swim out of the way before the rubble reaches the water at the #BigBarLandslide site.
These intentionally-placed boulders, which may be 13 feet high or more, will create shorter drops for #salmon to swim through as well as back eddies that will provide calmer waters where they can rest before continuing upstream past the #BigBarLandslide site.
#BigBarLandslide Update: Engineers, geologists and scaling personnel continue to work together to manipulate large-scale boulders found on the edges of the river in order to create a natural fish passage. https://t.co/ZteW4SejHz
#BigBarLandslide Update: Here's a close-up of the magnitude of the landslide, the rapid waters and scale of the rock face. Crews are continuing to work on multiple methods to create a safe passage for the #salmon. https://t.co/zrxnFsNKmb
#BigBarLandslide Update: Monday's controlled blasting operation successfully removed a large, dangerous overhanging rock. This will make it easier and safer for rock-scalers to work on moving rocks at water level to allow for natural fish passage. https://t.co/ZiL7qnaguz
Progress is being made. @DFO_Pacific is working together with #BC & First Nations communities to overcome the #BigBarLandslide that threatens to block the river to returning salmon. Temporary solutions are already underway to improve the passage of fish. https://t.co/CgzKTohA2E
We are doing everything possible to make sure salmon are able to reach their spawning grounds. Work is underway to create a temporary aluminum fishway & we are testing options for transporting the fish by truck or helicopter #BigBarLandslide

We’re working with First Nations and the Province of British Columbia to do everything possible to ensure that fish are able to navigate past the #BigBarLandslide in BC. https://t.co/D33Zy7QksI
