@AuthorofPatches @JoyceCarolOates There is a moment where the silly French detective asks Marje in the latest version why Dicky turned down the holiday with Freddy then says Dicky ie Ripley told him itwould have been a debauched time. Marje is shocked and says, all we ever do there is ski. Detective ignores it.

@PatrickjaLee @JoyceCarolOates It is very much a vicarious trip to 1960s Italy the hotel porters and the cat are great sub characters, but I did wonder more about the plot weaknesses than in the earlier versions. Ie why invite him to live with you and why Marje was not onto him faster.

@KiffinEileen Daughter read it at my Mum’s funeral last August. Mum would have been taught it by Snowy Hutton at Grey Tech Greymouth during WW2 days. She had wonderful teachers even if they all hated the principal.
