A fish only lives the complete life of a fish if it is wholly in the sea. We shall only live the complete Christian life when we are wholly in God.
(In the Silence, Retreat 2, Ch. 5)
Joy is a necessary weapon of the spiritual life...Part of the love of God and our neighbor must be the deliberate simplicity of a smiling soul.
(IN THE SILENCE, Retreat 1, Ch. 6 “Temptation”)
The Lord and Lover of our souls calls to us to make our spiritual adventure. If He appealed primarily to our intellect He could not be the God of the ignorant and unlearned as well as the God of the philosopher and scholar. If He is to be the God of the professor in his 》
the intellect as truth or doctrine. Acceptance of the love of God, self-yielding to the love of God, is religion; the explanation of it is theology. Religion—God’s attraction to the soul, the soul’s hunger for God—was before any creed, and it is always a looking for Jesus.
"The incarnation was not an episode in the life of God that had effect and came to an end, but a revelation of His eternal character. The Father and the Holy Ghost, like the Son, are the same today, yesterday and for ever. 》

but the loyal cooperation of mind and will in the glorious adventure of following the highest behest of God, the King and Saviour of the world."
(Simeon's Song, IV)

"A Saint is just somebody who wholly gives himself or herself to God. There is nothing more simple than to be a Saint, and there is nothing more difficult, but the secret is a very simple one. It is the complete and absolute and utter gift of the whole self.》
"Prayer gets hold of one's life in a real way, and makes the very breath of the lungs and the beat of the heart activities exercised for the love of God."
