@LaocoonofTroy Fascinating photograph. My ancestor William Myhill Hedges was a butcher who in 1861 lived in 7 North st Spitalfields which I can’t locate on maps. A rogue who had criminal record and had to sell substantial property in Essex. He started a dynasty in the area.

@holland_tom We spent a Christmas in the house Grace died in. I hadn’t known this when I rented it and having spent the first night alone, I told my family on their arrival, I sensed a sadness there. Then we saw the commerative plaque on the exterior wall. Very eerie.

I also had a coincidence with an elderly lady in Ottery who said her best friend was an evacuee from Peckham.
My mum was an evacuee from Cronin rd Peckham, where this lady’s friend was from.
The 2 children were cousins

@MathewJLyons It’s hard to believe that Peckham for example, was once a shopping destination with department stores.
Then there’s the poverty and deprivation in the tanneries in Bermondsey and Southwark.
