At the same time, it makes me think about how differently we judge people.

When untrained girls in Bihar climbed mobile towers to express their love or demand marriage, they were widely mocked as gawar. Police officers would patiently try to convince them to come down, sometimes even saying, Beta Priyanka neeche aa jao, biyah karwa denge.

To be clear, I'm not defending either stunt. Climbing buildings or towers without proper safety is dangerous, whether you're trained or untrained. The difference is that one story gets framed as a breathtaking love story, while the other is often reduced to a joke or a symbol of backwardness.

Love is love. Recklessness is recklessness. Maybe our reactions say as much about class, presentation and perception as they do about the act itself.
