Word has just come down that St. Paul’s Cathedral in London—the second most important church in the Anglican world—has imitated Canterbury Cathedral in permitting “raves,” nightclub-like entertainments, to take place in its confines.
The usual reasons for acquiescing to this have been trotted out: reaching out to the young, trying to get with the times, etc. But this development simply shows that the leadership of the Church of England has lost any sense of the crucial distinction between the sacred and the secular.
Across the centuries and across the cultures, our ancestors seem to have intuitively grasped the importance of this demarcation. Whereas the secular is the arena of ordinary experience and activity, the sacred is another realm, a different dimension.
Accordingly, in the properly sacred space, one is lifted out of the conventional and introduced into the numinous. This is why Christian cathedrals are filled with images of the saints and angels and why their interiors are meant first to disorient us and then to reorient us toward the divine.
It is also why, in the initiation rituals of primal peoples, a young person is purposely ripped out of the ordinary and introduced into the mythic and mystic dimension. And it is why, throughout the Bible, sacred spaces are carefully set apart from common spaces.
The contemporary West is, quite literally, the first culture in human history that is in danger of collapsing the sacred into the secular, or better, losing any sense of the difference between the two.
This is doing enormous damage, especially to young people, whose lives have been flattened into a preoccupation with money, worldly success, and material things.
The Church indeed should go out into the secular space to find those who have wandered away from God, but it should then lead those wanderers back to the holy.
Having “raves” in the nave of one of the most sacred spaces in the Christian world is, I’m sad to say, another sign of our pitiful surrender to ideological secularism.
Friends, for the wokeist philosophy that dominates today, empathy—feeling the feelings of the other and not harming those feelings—is treated as a supreme value. But while empathy is perfectly good and decent, the Bible teaches that love, not empathy, is the supreme value. And love does not mean, primarily, feeling the feelings of the other or not hurting those feelings; it means willing the good of the other—and that can be, as Dostoevsky said, “a harsh and dreadful thing.”

"One of the most important reasons for studying history is that virtually every stupid idea that is in vogue today has been tried before and proved disastrous before, time and again."

“The fact that so many successful politicians are such shameless liars is not only a reflection on them, it is also a reflection on us. When the people want the impossible, only liars can satisfy them, and only in the short run.”
— Thomas Sowell
To priests, I say: When times are difficult, as they frequently may be, I find it helpful to remind myself of the reason of our witness: love of Christ and of His Mystical Body, the Church. I love Christ, and I love His Mystical Body, the Church, and so do you. We embrace indifference, ridicule, rejection, and other forms of persecution because we love Our Lord and all our brothers and sisters in Him, in His holy Church.
Most of you have seen my Oxford Speech (it has been viewed 200-300 million times around the world) but this one is actually my favourite. At last year's @arc_forum, I challenged world leaders to face the fact that we are in the fight of our lives and act accordingly.
"We wish to make it clear that departure from the Church's teaching, or silence about it, in an effort to provide pastoral care is neither caring nor pastoral. Only what is true can ultimately be pastoral." - Joseph Ratzinger
In light of the Biden Administration’s changes to Title IX, I seriously worry about religious liberty in our country. As Pope Francis has recently emphasized, the Catholic Church has a distinctive way of talking about gender, in accord with our understanding of the human person. Will we be censored and coerced in our speech?
Girls suffer when we sell them self-pity wrapped up as empowerment. They suffer when we bombard them with a bleak, fatalistic view of the world and of themselves. And both sexes will suffer if we pull any further apart.

Grifters of every kind want to drive a wedge between men and women. Any person or ideology that does this does not have your best interests at heart. They're just profiting from your despair.
Marriage to the right person can be the single greatest asset in your life.
Things that shouldn’t be controversial:
Men in dresses aren’t women.
Women who cut their breasts off aren’t men.
Abortion is evil.
Sleeping around is unhealthy for women and men.
Life starts at conception.
God defines marriage.
