It’s not rocket science Mayor…get the parties together in a room and come to an arrangement that works for everyone.
If we can negotiate an energy deal with the Liberals and get to a new arena deal with your City administration, I have faith you can find a way to get to a sound deal with Cowboys. It shouldn’t be hard.
Oh and a 75 dB sound is roughly equivalent to the volume of a washing machine or flushing toilet…
Rob, Google found you an electric toothbrush. It did not find the City’s actual rules.
The limit is 70 dBA before midnight, not 50. That is 100 times the sound intensity you claim.
I support Calgary having the best festivals, including the longest show hours on the continent. I will work with industry and community to protect that.
I look forward to your retraction, in line with the same standard of accuracy you constantly demand from media.
Good morning Mr Mayor.
From Google:
Other common everyday sounds that fall into the 60 to 65 dB range include:
•The hum of a dishwasher
•An electric toothbrush
•Light office chatter
Friendly suggestion you find a way for the City to be a tad more reasonable than this…
A lot of jobs and events will be lost if you can’t.
Rob, the limit is 70 dBA before midnight, not 50. Even after midnight on weekends, it is 65 dBA. That is 100x more sound intensity than you claim.
Calgary still runs later than Coachella on weekends and weeknights. You now have the facts. What you do next shows whether you were in error, or were trying to mislead.
“Fifty decibels (the new rule introduced June 15) is often equated to the noise level of a moderate rainfall, home air conditioning or light traffic…
Music festivals in other major cities across North America, Vickers said, typically operate at up to 110 or 120 decibels.”
Good grief…is this part of the Blue Sky City rebrand or something Calgary?
City Hall gatekeepers are making a big mistake killing jobs, smothering country music culture, and cutting back performances at the world-famous Cowboys celebration during the Calgary Stampede.
Millions flock to the Stampede because IT IS FUN to stay up late and listen to loud music. That brings nearly a billion dollars in tourism and excitement for the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.
Hopefully, City Hall will let this 30-year-old music event continue as it has in years past and grow.
Come on @JeromyYYC and Calgary Council…let’s not mess up a world renowned Calgary music festival over a few late nights in early July. Surely there’s a better way.
Looks like the fun police have struck again in Calgary, this time targeting the Calgary Stampede music scene.
By reducing allowable noise levels and shutting shows down early on weeknights, the city will negatively affect hundreds of workers and create additional public safety and crowd-management problems due to guests leaving in a shorter timeframe.
Many major festivals and entertainment districts across North America successfully operate without these types of restrictions.
Stampede is one of Calgary's signature events, attracting hundreds of thousands of residents and visitors who come to enjoy the attractions, live music, and the unique energy of our city.
The Mayor and Council should work with bylaw to reconsider these restrictions and work with festival operators to find a solution that balances community concerns with the economic and cultural benefits these events bring to Calgary.

The NDP is literally requesting that the federal government intervene in an area of provincial jurisdiction.
Could you imagine having them in government “defending” our provincial rights?
If you don’t like the policy Naheed, explain why to Albertans and run your election campaign on it. We’ll beat you fair and square.
But don’t whine to Ottawa and ask them to oversee and interfere in our provincial affairs.
Grow a spine dude. Stand up for the rights of our province for a change.
Healthcare could well be an issue that helps the NDP in the next election, but asking for federal intervention to block Alberta's plans seems... ill-advised.
Nenshi relies on scaring to death as many Albertans as possible with hyperbole and flat out lies.
Bringing European-style health reforms that have been implemented by almost every other industrialized nation from Sweden to Japan to Denmark to Germany is long overdue. It is proven public policy that is agreed to across the political spectrum in those countries.
But that’s not important to the NDP. It’s all about promoting fear and protecting entrenched interests. Shameful though predictable.
Alberta’s public health-care system is being steadily eroded by the UCP government as they barrel forward with their plans to introduce a two-tier, American-style, for-profit system here in our province. It’s not just wrong, it’s incompetent, because it will do nothing to improve services for Albertans.
Today, I sent a letter to Prime Minister Carney, calling on the Government of Canada to intervene under the Canada Health Act and protect public health care in Alberta.
The Alberta Blackrod project by International Petroleum Corp is now producing oil, marking the first new oil sands project in more than a decade.
With the end of the Trudeau production cap under the new Alberta-Ottawa energy agreement, there will be many more such projects to come.
This is what confidence in Alberta’s economy looks like.

What a dangerous and irresponsible letter by Treaty Chiefs.
Asking the RCMP to investigate and charge a Premier with treason because you disagree with her policy (to hold a referendum in this case) is a dark path that we see in 3rd world banana republics.
It is wrong, it is unAlbertan and it is unCanadian…period.
Another example of Alberta having the courage to lead and inspiring other jurisdictions to do the same.
We did it on addictions recovery over safe supply.
We did it on energy development and pipelines.
We did it on protecting children from altering their genders before they become adults.
And now we’ve done it on prohibiting MAID for those whose sole underlying condition is a mental health issue
Awesome stuff Alberta!
Canadians are increasingly concerned about the expansion of MAID for those suffering from mental illness.
Alberta already acted, by passing our own legislation to protect vulnerable people, because those facing mental health challenges deserve treatment, support, and hope, not an assisted death.
We’re encouraged to see Ottawa reconsidering this path and moving toward a more compassionate approach.

Canada may be in a recession, but Alberta sure isn't 💥
Thanks to having no PST, the lowest corporate taxes in Canada, aggressively cutting red tape, and a relentless focus on keeping Alberta affordable, we continue to be the economic engine of the country. More evidence that Alberta can keep growing and thriving in an uncertain world 📈
The federal government’s decision to extend its firearms amnesty once again is an admission that its firearm confiscation scheme is ineffective and deeply flawed.
Ottawa should make the amnesty permanent and abandon its plan to confiscate legally acquired firearms from law-abiding Canadians. Gun confiscation programs will never stop gang violence, cross-border gun smuggling, and the criminal misuse of firearms. We will continue to use every lawful tool at our disposal to shield Albertans from any form of firearms confiscation.
Alberta believes in a principled, evidence-based approach to firearms policy that targets violent criminals and illegal guns, not responsible firearms owners who follow the law.
(And yes. That is a picture of me skeet shooting with friends.)
Dreams do come true Sean!
It just shows if you dedicate every day in your media career inventing creative anti-UCP narratives and torquing stories, the Alberta NDP will find a way to repay your loyalty.
We knew you’d get there one day big guy. Congrats! @CityNewsYEG
Very excited to announce I’m joining the Alberta NDP Caucus as Director of Communications.
These are pivotal times for the province I was born & raised in, and Albertans deserve a good, honest, pro-Canada government.
The usual mindless drivel from Canada’s Chief Laurentian elite representative @acoyne
Andrew, let me try and spell it out for you yet again.
1. Trudeau waged a sustained economic attack on Alberta with a string of destructive laws and policies that cost Albertans hundreds of billions in investments and hundreds of thousands of jobs while dealing with a cost of living crisis fueled by your buddy, Justin’s, open borders policies and failed Keynesian monetary theories.
2. Trudeau was replaced by Carney and, as part of Energy MOU, retracted or amended the 9 bad laws you refer to.
3. As a result, we have seen tens of billions of new private sector investment announcements in Alberta with much more to be announced shortly. We knuckle draggers in Alberta call this the initial signs of an economic boom (you are forgiven if you have forgotten what that looks like).
4. Premier Smith sees this flood of investment and jobs - stemming from the repeal of most of the terrible legislation under the MOU - as evidence that we can still make Canada work for Alberta and is fighting to make that case to Albertans despite your - and those of your ilk - continuing your feckless attacks on her.
The reason for the block Andrew is I simply don’t value your opinion on the affairs of Alberta. You show your disdain for our province at every opportunity and I don’t need you clogging my feed with your 20x a day posts. But I will instead merely mute you so you can still follow my posts as I don’t wish to hurt your feelings.
Have fun on that wonderfully balanced CBC At-Issue panel trying to unpack the important issues distressing Albertans with your fellow Toronto/Montreal panelists.
Wait, so ALBERTA IS BOOMING … under the oppressive federal yoke? Under the Nine Bad Laws? You mean the richest province in Canada is getting even richer? Clearly there’s no alternative but to bust up the country.
I’d respond directly but the premier’s chief of staff blocked me.
I’m all for folks pointing out the potential risks of Alberta separating. That’s a healthy part of the debate.
But this whole “the separation debate is killing investment” argument is complete BS. Every economic indicator says the exact opposite. Every. Single. One.
Muzzling important discussions is foolish. Have a free and open debate and trust Albertans to make the right decision.
The Calgary Chamber - and the entire business community - is raising the alarm about continuing the conversation on separation. Separatist-driven uncertainty leads to "job losses, declining productivity and reductions in regional economic growth."
Congrats to Connor Mcdavid on his 5th Ted Lindsay award (best player as voted on by the NHL players) - moving into a tie with the Great One for the most ever. He’s 29…
Total and complete class act. Thanks for all you do for Edmonton, for Alberta and for Canada Connor.
The UCP just held the largest political fundraiser in Alberta (and likely Canadian) history. Great speech by @ABDanielleSmith
2000 Calgarians at $525 per ticket. That’s well over a million raised in one night.
Thanks for the amazing support Calgary.
Speaking with Quebec's business community, I explained why past politicians and their destructive, anti-Alberta policies created legitimate grievances and caused many Albertans to lose faith in Canada.
Our job now is to restore that faith. That's why we're working with Prime Minister Mark Carney @MarkJCarney, CPC Leader Pierre Poilievre @PierrePoilievre, Premiers across the country, and industry leaders to reverse harmful policies, build nation-building projects, and grow our economy.
As provinces, we should champion one another's success and support each other's economic aspirations. That's how we build a stronger Alberta, a stronger Quebec, and a Canada that works.
