The new @TheAuthorGuy book has joined the others on the shelf and in the tradition of me forgetting you shouldn’t read him in public; had me snorting with laughter again, which can be alarming for fellow passengers on an overnight flight.
Did a tricky translation for dad's impressive essay 'the sound of truth', and joyously failed. If anyone would like to have a go, or read the Dutch original, I've included the original text's word doc at the end of the piece.
Sometimes I read my dad's work, then re-read it, and then I just sit quietly for a while waiting for the world to come back into focus.

That sense of being suspended in endless space. I love being out in the open sea, where there is nothing your mind can grasp but the waves and the way the sun filters through the surface, creating rays that look distinct enough to hold onto with both hands.

Possibly all of this verbal activity is just an overconfident and fascinating but destined to fail episode between an original silence and the quiet that comes after a storm of words, which might barely recollect any of it.

Oh my heart - can you be in love with a place? I get butterflies when I know I'm going to see Maravilla. She's only a small cenote, and not super deep, but she's such a pearl, such a gem of perfection.
