This is Rita Field-Marsham, one of the seven daughters of the late Nicholas Biwott.
In 2018, following her father’s death, Rita declined to take her allocated share of the Biwott estate.
Court documents from the succession case showed the estate was valued at over Kshs 30 billion, including shares in companies like Kobil, Yana Tyres, and vast land holdings.
Rita was among the beneficiaries, but she formally renounced her portion.
She did not publicly state her reasons, but the family said it was a personal and principled decision.
Her share was subsequently redistributed equally among the other beneficiaries as per court directions.
For years, Rita has lived in Kenya with her husband, Charles Field-Marsham, a Canadian national.
They have been undertaking low-profile philanthropy.
Through their foundation, she has facilitated scholarships and placement of over 200 disadvantaged Kenyan students to elite universities in the US and Canada.
Many of the students come from rural and underserved communities.
Despite her family name, Rita has stayed out of politics and business.
She chose to focus on education, charity, and mentoring young Kenyans. Now she is renowned lawyer and a writer.
