December 8, 2023, Brazil.

In a disturbing incident, a 34-year-old man assaulted a 15-year-old girl in the streets of Ibiúna.

CCTV footage showed the teenager walking on a sidewalk with her cousin when a man approached her. He appeared to say something before punching her in the face, causing her to lose balance and fall to the ground. Subsequently, the aggressor walked away from the scene.

Witnesses rushed to aid the teenage girl. Her mother, who wishes to remain anonymous, recounted the moment and expressed her distress by stating:

“I was in a store with them when they both went ahead to the pharmacy, which is right next to where we were. It was at that moment that this man approached my daughter and asked for money. She said she didn't have any, and out of nowhere, he punched her. She was punched unexpectedly, there was no time to defend herself.” The mother continued, “Store staff who saw the attack helped her and took her inside. That's when my niece told me what happened. I lost the ground right away. I don't even know how to describe the reaction, I was nervous when I found out that someone hit my daughter. We took her to the hospital and, luckily, nothing was broken. But she is very shaken”

Following the assault, the man was apprehended by the Municipal Civil Guard (GCM) and taken to a police station, where the incident was recorded as a case of physical assault. However, the man's family appeared and informed authorities that he suffers from schizophrenia. During questioning, the man denied having assaulted the teenager but confirmed that he had "some mental issues and frequented the CAPS (Psychosocial Care Center)." His sister also appeared at the police station and signed a Termo Circunstanciado de Ocorrência (Circumstantial Occurrence Report). Subsequently, the man was released.

The Ibiúna City Hall further informed that following the episode, the man's family voluntarily admitted him to a private clinic.
