I love kayaking , hiking, clean air, clean water, my boyfriend, my daughter, my granddaughters. I believe that women should have the same opportunities as men.
@ChrisinJax1@carney0134 It’s clear that April Carney can’t be an FSCJ board of trustee member AND a @DuvalSchools board member.
13.04 prohibits school board members from holding any other public office .
@ChrisinJax1@carney0134 Williams said state law would overrule the city charter in this case. The city’s general counsel disagreed, according to the draft opinion.

Similarly, state law doesn’t overrule our local ordinance 13.04.
Excerpts from Teal’s opinion:
unless there is an express Florida Constitution provision of general law that establishes a requirement inconsistent with Jacksonville's Charter, the City, pursuant to its home rule
authority, has the legal authority
Teal’s opinion states the city charter’s requirement is valid and enforceable. Would he rule similarly over April Carney violating City Ordinance 13.04 which says school board members shall not hold any other public office?
DRAFT OPINION: here’s the draft opinion from Jacksonville’s General Counsel it concludes the sheriffs office will be vacant as of 2PM today. Not sure what this means for the Sheriff’s June 10th retirement. @ActionNewsJax
@ChrisinJax1@carney0134 F.s. 166.021 says cities "may exercise any power for municipal purposes, except when expressly prohibited by law." The wording in ordinance 13.04 isn’t expressly prohibited by law so it’s valid.
@ChrisinJax1@carney0134 It seems clear to me that April Carney should NOT have joined the FSCJ Board. But since she did, she needs to resign from the DCPS board. City Ordinance Section 13.04 is clear: Members of the school board shall not hold any other public office
@stephanymatat
Doesn’t the state require a media specialist hired by the district to review every book in a district-run school library or classroom? The district can’t let teachers or other experts decide, correct?

Big win for workers tonight in Florida! Brian Nathan, a union electrician, defeated a state representative who voted against workers in a special election for Florida Senate District 14. This shows that turning your backs on working Floridians will cost you at the ballot box.
@StasiKamoutsas Excerpts:
The guidance makes clear that parents and children have a constitutional right to take part in public school in ways that align with their sincerely held religious beliefs.

@StasiKamoutsas You reference the Federal guidelines but fail to emphasize this part. Why? I don’t see that it says teachers and staff can proselytize. It seems more of a protection for students.
Excerpts from the PRESS RELEASE:
Religious freedom means for everyone, not just you. A moment of silence (rather than a sectarian prayer) before public meetings allows everyone, regardless of faith, to participate comfortably—whether through prayer, silent reflection, or contemplation.

@JeffSolochek@TB_Times Religious freedom means for everyone, not just for DCPS Board Chair Joyce. A moment of silence (rather than a sectarian prayer) allows everyone, regardless of faith, to participate comfortably—whether through prayer, silent reflection, or contemplation.

@AGGancarski
I wish you could find out and write about it. What exactly did the Education Commissioner thank Joyce and Carney for? Did they help draft these terrible rules?
Carney seems like she is hurting our public schools, not advocating for improving them. Why does she stand with Uthmeier threatening our public schools that don’t put TPUSA chapters in our schools?
