Propulsé l’année précédente par le single "Tombé pour la France", un tube absolu au titre définitif - certainement le plus grand hit dahoïste, s’il ne devait en rester qu’un -, le troisième album d’Étienne Daho est à la fois un millésime de l’année 1986 et la quintessence d’une pop française dont son auteur-compositeur-interprète demeure, quatre décennies plus tard, le parrain incontesté, le chef de file vénéré, le modèle adoubé.
