It's actually a mix of two features:
1) Yearly reminder for fixed dates (birthday, anniversary)
2) Variable reminder calculated from the last interaction (weekly, monthly, etc.)
We use both in our personal CRM app.

Their interests, birthday with reminders, and a last time of contact, or ooh could it track if you've read but not replied, because that reminder is needed!
