@BrumLibraries has provided a commentary on the current library proposals which has been sent to the members of the @BhamCityCouncil Neighbourhoods Overview & Scrutiny Committee to inform their consideration of the proposals. You can read them here:

Saturday library openings are crucial for so many people - especially those who work during the week, school-age children...
We're planning to write to our councillors about this - library lovers please tell us why YOU need your library open on Saturdays (reply/DM/email).❤️
Calling all Brum library-loving crafters!🪡
Cabinet is due to make a decision about our libraries on Jan 21st. Before then, we want to create some crafted treasures that will remind them of the solace, care & knowledge libraries offer us all.🙏Let us know if you'd like to help❤️
Library lovers of Brum!
A council committee is due to discuss the proposed library cuts next week. Please email them asking for proper scrutiny of the proposals and the consultation. Let them know we need & love our libraries!

“Double, double, toil and trouble,
Fire burn and cauldron bubble”...there was certainly some magic in the air at Mere Green earlier - look at the wonderful witches created in our craft session earlier! Well done everyone! 🧙♀️🪄🧹📚
The government must take urgent action to secure council finances and protect local arts and culture access.
Cultural services are facing devastating cuts & closures. That means libraries, arts grants, community classes & schemes, and many more services are critically at risk.
Today I spoke at length with Birmingham City Council’s Lead Commissioner 👇🏼
Here’s what he had to say about accusations of undemocratically preventing scrutiny.
Our open letter to the library consultation team, councillors & commissioners.👇
"Yet again, it feels like our views do not matter, that the Council does not treat the requirement for democratic participation in local government with any seriousness."

Poor governance by the leadership of @BhamCityCouncil is a significant factor contributing to our financial crisis. By blocking legitimate scrutiny of that leadership, the Commissioners are allowing a culture to continue which will make the City’s recovery very difficult.
@PreetKGillMP@BhamCityCouncil Only last month Starmer said the commissioners appointed by Gove should be left to "get on with the job they've been appointed to do". You and other Birmingham MPs need to be far more vocal raising the city’s plight with the Government
Today, I have written to commissioners @BhamCityCouncil on their intervention to reject a call-in request for Harborne day care centre, to be considered by scrutiny. More here 👇🏽https://t.co/Jb77yLFUSG
As a member of the scrutiny committee that would have heard this call in, I think this is outrageous and utterly undemocratic. The were concerns that the plans had specific impacts on carers and users that hadn't been addressed. We should have had the chance to hear this
Trick or Treat? Is Our Library Really Saved? Halloween's coming, and it seems like Cabinet members are in the spirit—claiming our libraries are saved. But is this just a trick? Hall Green Library still faces cuts, with hours slashed to only 3 days a week.
Library lovers of Birmingham, you're amazing!
We've written a note about BCC's revised proposals for our libraries: they still represent a 40% cut to the service.
We have until Nov 3rd to speak up!
