The Roman coin belonged to Caesar because it bore his image and inscription. God made us in His image and inscribed His law on our hearts. Are we taking what belongs to God and too easily handing it over to political parties, the world, sin, [fill in the blank]? #SundayHomily

Even if we do not have the blessing of being able to escape the tempests of the world, may we still find room in our hearts where we can be with Christ - where He gives us stability, security, peace - where the Cross stands steady while the world turns.

“Angel” means messenger, so I guess #Archangels are special messengers. It seems to me that the special messages they bear are all some variation of: God has already won.

Humility reminds us that we shouldn’t take our relationship with God (ie. being recipients of unmerited love) for granted, that nothing is more important than our relationship with God, and that we always have room for growth in our relationship with God. #SundayHomily

The unforgiving servant, in thinking he can repay his debt, keeps himself trapped in his debt even after his king forgives it. In acknowledging our profound poverty before God, we can embrace being forgiven and become more willing to forgive others as well. #SundayHomily

Where two or three gather in Jesus’ name, He is there - not as ecclesial decentralization but the opposite, because we belong to His Mystical Body. Giving and accepting correction then takes on a deeper meaning: helping one another become as Christlike as possible. #SundayHomily

We encounter many crosses in life: struggles, challenges, difficulties. But the cross of greatest consequence is that of resisting temptations and fighting against personal sin. This is the cross that requires true self-denial but promises us eternal life. #SundayHomily

Jesus choosing Peter to be Pope says more about Jesus than about Peter. And God choosing to love us says more about Him than about us. It’s not that we’re good; it’s that He’s good. It’s not that we’ve earned it; it’s despite the fact that we can’t. #SundayHomily

In replying the way He does, Jesus moves the Canaanite woman from a desire for her daughter’s wellbeing to a desire for a share in a relationship with God. When God asks for more faith, He’s really inviting us to receive a greater gift than we initially asked for. #SundayHomily

Sometimes Jesus calls us out of the boat. Never mind the winds and the waves, keep our eyes on Jesus. When we look into the eyes of Jesus, we will see love, encouragement, acceptance. And that will enable us to do things that seemed beyond our abilities. #SundayHomily

Just as we need physical food for physical nourishment, so we need spiritual food for spiritual nourishment. The sacramental reception of the Eucharist is not a nice add-on but a necessity: “Unless you eat... you do not have life within you.” #CorpusChristi #SundayHomily

The Trinity shows that God is Love: a unity coexisting with distinctions, with differences. As Christians destined for unity with this Love, we must be witnesses of unity in a world that is afflicted by so much divisiveness. #SundayHomily

On Pentecost, the Body of Christ, the Church, was given a soul: the Holy Spirit. As we encounter a spirit of division and hatred and fear, members of the Body of Christ must truly make the Holy Spirit our animating principle if we are to renew the face of the earth. #SundayHomily

In the Ascension, Jesus both draws our attention heavenward and at the same time commands us to go (and not just stand there looking at the sky). He is inviting us to unite heaven and earth, to share the Gospel and make His love truly present in our world. #SundayHomily

The Spirit is our Advocate against the Accuser. We can live free from the world’s expectations, the Devil’s lies, and our insufficiencies, knowing that we are not orphans and that we are loved by our Heavenly Father. #SundayHomily

When we take Jesus to be “the way, the truth, and the life” for us, we begin to live seeking union with Him. Then, we will find that “Do not let your hearts be troubled” changes from being a command to a promise. #SundayHomily

The Good Shepherd’s sheep recognize His voice and follow Him. This means that learning to recognize the Good Shepherd’s voice (through prayer, study, discernment of spirits, etc.) is essential to having a more abundant life. #SundayHomily

Before the disciples can recognize Jesus, they first had to open their hearts to Him and invite Him to stay with them. We too must open our hearts to Jesus - inviting Him into all our struggles and frustrations - before we can recognize His presence with us. #SundayHomily
