The second session of the open-ended intergovernmental working group on a possible optional protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child meets 31st August to 2nd September. @DCU@DCU_IoE@dcu_ecrc
Getting ready to join colleagues and many(!) international NGO's and children's rights advocates in Geneva at UNHCR to support strengthening the right to early childhood education, free public pre-primary, and free secondary education in international law
Governments, experts, civil society and child advocates meet at @UNGeneva (31 Aug-2 Sept) to advance discussions on a possible new international agreement to strengthen children's rights to early and free education.

There is broad consensus on the importance of access to education for all children, but international law remains fragmented. Moving from consensus and ambition to legislation would be an important step forward
🇵🇸 Amazing! 180 civil society organisations have endorsed our National March for Palestine. Join us, 12.30pm. We march for sanctions on apartheid Israel and to show our unbreakable solidarity with our Palestinian sisters and brothers. All out! #FreePalestine#SanctionsNow 🇵🇸
Here is the recorded version of my song ‘Palestine’. The full version is available on this thread on YouTube and Bandcamp. 'From the river to the sea’ is an aspirational call for freedom, human rights, and peaceful coexistence. Free Palestine. 🇵🇸
I am impressed (and touched) by the how many are speaking out in defense of my work. Standing united against abuse is critical, and even more critical is to stop the genocide.
TOGETHER WE CAN.

A rare light in the darkness of fascism: The UN Human Rights Council has voted to extend Francesca Albanese’s mandate as Special Rapporteur on Palestine until 2028, despite intense U.S., EU, and lobby pressure.
@FranceskAlbs has been the sole voice offering hope for the path of defending human rights. Though we feel frustrated and defeated as we fail the victims, we must thank her for keeping hope alive in delivering their voices.
Footage obtained by the New York Times shows the moment Israeli forces open fire on medics in Gaza. The footage is from March. Attacking marked medical vehicles & workers is a breach of the laws of war.

Horrific video footage showing Israeli forces attacking the convoy of aid workers in Gaza with a barrage of bullets.
A paramedic frantically says his prayers, fearing death. The ambulances were clearly marked and had their lights on, refuting Israel's claims.
Israeli attacks kill, injure at least 100 children a day in Gaza. No further comment is needed. [Just imagine how the Western media would be reacting if these were American, British or European children...] https://t.co/51T3L6FkOS
❌ALARMING❌The Israeli government's formally announced intention to permanently annex the entire occupied West Bank is such a serious and egregious violation of int'l law, that if not halted, the collapse of the multilateral system built on universal principles (such as sovereignty, self-determination, primacy of int'l law) will be unavoidable.
Israel just shut off electricity for 2.2 million people, and The New York Times is making it sound like a reasonable negotiation tactic affecting just a single treatment plant instead of a war crime targeting an entire population.
@edmatters 2024 is out, with an impressive 12 chapters on early childhood education and care! My overview chapter: Pre-election promises, potential for change, and what we really should be talking about: https://t.co/Vn6KWozDnh #ECEC@DCU@dcu_ecrc
Bringing the week to a good conclusion with a freshly published article with (by!) my PhD student Katrin Macha: (More) room for democracy. Children's perspectives on participation in #ECEC. Brush up your German - it's open access! https://t.co/GhG3oeoFB7 @dcu_ecrc@DCU_IoE
Delighted to represent @dcu_ecrc today at @dfatirl event to mark Ireland joining @g20org, hosted by South Africa. Since 2018 I had the honour to coordinate a fabulous global group of #ECCE#ECD experts that provides policy briefs to @T20org. We look forward to 2025! @DCU@DCU_IoE
