As I write in this new op-ed for @inthesetimesmag, abortion rights are a labor issue—and the labor movement needs to show up on this latest front of the class war to fight with deeds, not just words https://t.co/aSAqNScofs
Our movement is fighting for more autonomy and more humanity for all of us -- both in the workplace and outside of it. No boss and no court should ever have the right to tell us what to do with our own bodies. All of us in the labor movement must fight for our abortion rights.
The Classified Staff Union represents the workers that keep UMass Boston up and running — but they're still struggling to settle a fair contract. Sign this petition and help us show administration the entire UMB community stands in solidarity with the CSU: https://t.co/2wEBKNJoW8
“I think it’s really a setback for higher education in Massachusetts. There are challenges facing the African American community the Trotter Institute was created to address.” https://t.co/GAyo9nJQ6a
In moments of honest self-critique I acknowledge that I can be a rigid thinker.
And other times I have to insist that so much of the rhetoric currently issuing from upper admin is a purposeful distraction from the real story.

Join us TOMORROW, 4/13, and Thursday, 4/14 outside of Wheatley Hall to demand safe learning and working conditions! We will be there from 8-4. A healthy, safe campus environment is non-negotiable.
I learn from:
Examples: @FSU_UMB@pkruegerhenney @chriscmartel who respond, collaborate, & troubleshoot expansively in humanizing ways; suggest how to reframe
Non-examples: gaslighting, actively rude or blaming, radio silence when someone asks for help or shares vulnerable info
Because of Caroline Coscia’s election as FSU President (congrats again, Caroline!), we're holding a special election to fill the role of VP. @melnickjeffrey1, our current communications director, is running to fill this position. Read his statement here: https://t.co/1tyypCdhCr
UMass Boston faculty, staff and students: Our campus-wide mask mandate was lifted last week — while our ventilation systems remain inadequate — and we want to know how you feel about it. Please take this survey here:

Well, here is something delightful to report: we have a president-elect for the Faculty-Staff Union @umassboston and it is the first time in our history that the position will be held by a non-tenure track faculty member.
And it's the truly fantastic Caroline Coscia!
As Neil Young once sang, "sooner or later, it all gets real."
Still amazed that admin on my campus thought they could just brazenly lie and faculty would just sorta gulp and say, oh ok.

Free speech on campus isn’t just about offensive language. Restricting faculty speech reinforces existing power imbalances and limits educators’ ability to help students work through difficult (but important!) issues.
