I just read @TheAthleticFC 41 facts about Ronaldo as he turns 41. And some facts stood out for me.
In Cristiano Ronaldo’s nearly 24 years of playing professional football, he has scored against 207 different teams.
Of all the teams he has played against at least three times, he has only failed to score against 9 of them. Those nine are: Benfica, Turkey, Lille, Albania, Wolves, Leicester, England, Brazil, and Celtic.
The teammate he played the most games with is Karim Benzema. They played 355 games together for Real Madrid. Forget their Saudi shenanigans.
He has scored 25 goals in finals — 15 of them were for Real Madrid.
226 of his career goals were scored between the 76th and 90th minute. It's the period he scored most of his goals. The least amount of his goals came in the opening 15 minutes of games.
Of all the stats I read, the one I found the most interesting and useful for the everyday person in my opinion is this fact:
Ronaldo has played 1,308 professional games in his career. He has played 106,957 minutes in total. Since there are 1440 minutes in a day, this means Ronaldo has played a total of 74.2days in his career, approximately 74 days.
Now, to break it down.
He has played active, recognised, professional association football for only 74 days out of his career of over 23 years. He played 1,308 games across 74 days.
There are at least 8,395 days in 23 years and he has done what has given him the fame, money, and power for only 0.009% of his career.
To leave it there would be a weak and shallow position.
Ronaldo may have spent less than 0.1% of his career playing active games, but he has spent those 99.9% working hard, training, building himself and sharpening his axe to cut the tree.
We all spend days working and would be recognised only for the work we do, but there are thousands of hours that go behind the work to make it look like the quality it is.
That's something to note.
Like Roger Federer said, “effortless is a myth”.
➜ 3 points behind a team who spent €500M in the summer
➜ Fighting for 🇪🇺 places
➜ Team with most shots on target in the PL
➜ 2 draws after missing 8 starting players
➜ He was told there would be NO signings in January
The way they treated Ruben Amorim was 𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐀𝐍𝐄 🔴🤦♂️
We'll regret sacking Amorim, he left because he spoke the truth about this club and not because of the performance...the media won't speak about it, journalists won't either unless they'll get banned from interviews even ex players won't talk and it has been going on for years. Even managers like ten hag faced the same issue but swallowed it up
He left united at 6th the same points as Chelsea, 3rd highest scoring club in the league...let's see how "the next guy" does.
It's so sad but unto the next.
What’s truly alarming is that Amorim won’t be sacked for poor results but for pushing the board to back him with signings.
That speaks volumes about INEOS and their priorities.
Egyptian star Ahmed Elmohamady's response to Jamie Carragher:
"Right Jamie, you’re a disgrace. Salah completely rewrote his story through hard work, humility, and world-class performances. He didn’t ‘fail’ at Chelsea.
He was never given the chance. He went to Italy, rebuilt himself, then came to Liverpool and became: a Premier League legend, Egypt’s greatest ever player, and one of the most consistent forwards of his generation.
Salah has carried Egypt for years and got Egypt qualified for the World Cup twice after so long. Salah earned everything. No wonder you got blanked by C. Ronaldo. No wonder Messi called you out. No wonder Mourinho said you were below average and not even in the top 1,000 defenders in the PL.”
