@elperromonkeado@capitrabalhista I know your country quite well, I have close Brazilian friends, been to Brazil, speak a bit Portuguese
We both know nothing will happen if I reported. Look at those people doing split eyes recently, you think millions of Japanese and anti-racist Brazilians stayed quiet?
@elperromonkeado@capitrabalhista Agreed Japan must reckon with its history as Germany has
But Brazil has no moral highground here given Bolsonaro recently displaced indigenous people - this is not history
So back to my point - let's stop pointing fingers and focus on ourselves
@elperromonkeado@capitrabalhista My point is exactly that - no country is perfect. So let's stop generalizing and pointing fingers.
Otherwise I would also be one of those uneducative Japanese spouting racist shit.
@elperromonkeado@capitrabalhista I went for a vacation and was insulted every day, I'm going to enjoy my vacation instead of performing bureaucracy.
The fact that it happened every day and only once someone stood up is enough for anyone to gauge the society.
Also not talking about the players but the crowd.
@elperromonkeado@capitrabalhista So the Brazilians I know in this country aren't Brazilian?
East asians are not allowed to live abroad?
I guess you are not a Brazilian either given statistically you are not indigenous to the land
@elperromonkeado@capitrabalhista 1. I was comparing indigenous and hikikimoris who account for 1% of the respective population s
2. The people that were racist to me in Rio didn't go to jail
3. All talks until economy parity is achieved, just look at what kind of Brazilians go to the world cup - it's clear
@Alice5113r4@NovaKom01 2 weeks in Rio I was incessantly bothered by strangers doing split eyes to me. Such behavior does not happen in East Asia.
Yet I still refuse to generalize the entire country of Brazil. Sad you choose to waste money on Twitter instead of saving up to see the world for yourself.
@capitrabalhista And to solve this you need to give the same energy to racists in your country
In everyday life, an Asian will be ridiculed a lot more in Brazil than any Brazilian in East Asia
Overall I like Brazilians so it's disappointing to see supposedly inclusive people doing opposite
@capitrabalhista And how about we work to overcome that economic representation of the indigenous people are proportional all across Brazil?
They are 1% of Brazil, just like hikikomoris in Japan. And I'm sure both countries are making efforts to address this so there is no need to point fingers.
@chaoticstarzzz@capitrabalhista My point is that hikikomoris make up 1-2% of Japan, so why focus on a niche problem of a country far away?
This is exactly what the person I am replying to suggested not to do
@Enos_Kats@harumi_fourcats@jSLEzqZ8wzMAHmR@nisijima_minami Why is blackface offensive in Brazil?
In countries with no history of enslaving black people it has no offensive connotation
It's the same logic - when you try to look for nuances in one but not in the other you are already setting up a foundation for discrimination
@MilkChoc0oo_ That's not true
I've spent two weeks in Rio and every single day I had a racist incident
From metros, beach, streets and bars.
Only once in the metro when two groups of people started ganging up on me someone intervened
Any Asian person who's been to Brazil know the truth
@UwuGoku47973 Because Brazilians brought up atomic bombs and tsunami.
Does that mean Brazilian society has a supremacist and violent mentality?
Don't pretend that it's just one side doing this.
Very Israel-coded to poke and poke and then act shocked when poked back.
@MilkChoc0oo_ The people that did split eyes to me in Rio were not legally or publicly punished.
And most people just let it happen and didn't care.
At least in Argentina people judged me silently.
Been to over 50 countries and never experienced overt racism like this.
@UwuGoku47973@sushi_zamurai_ But when I see this kind of behavior online, where supposedly progressively people are behaving just like what they are supposed to be against, I am very disappointed.
My Brazilian friends use the word "respeito" a lot. I see none of it in some people here.
@UwuGoku47973@sushi_zamurai_ I spent 2 weeks in Rio had someone doing the split eyes multiple times every day.
I've been to over 50 countries and no country was this overt in asian racism, including Argentina.
Still Brazil is in my top 5 destination because there were a lot more nice and kind people
@HollyGrayle @Betterworld2222 @khalil_hinawi Nakba was 1947 and Hamas was founded in 1987. What was the boogeyman before 1987?
Hamas would be younger than your children, if someone was foolish enough to engage in reproduction with you.
