💬 'Credit must go where it is due. It was him (Hon. @MosesMagogo) who started the idea. As a government, because of the guarantees required, we came in to support the idea.'
Hon. @OgwangOgwang, Minister of State for Education and Sports (Sports), speaking at the U-17 Women’s Team luncheon hosted at Four Points. The team won the CECAFA U-17 Women’s Championship 2026.

Today, together with the State minister of Sports Hon. @OgwangOgwang and some members of the FUFA Executive committee and staff we welcomed the Teen Cranes –The national U17 girls football team at luncheon organized at Fours Points by Sheraton Hotel.
The team successfully defended the CECAFA U17 Women’s Championship in remarkable fashion not only winning the trophy, but emerging champions after playing very good football. They won all their 5 games scoring an impressive 26 goals without conceding any at a tournament held in Dar es salaam.
Our interest is not just about winning trophies at this level but also development and this is just work in progress because at this stage we are inculcating a culture, the spirit of the fighting.
As a federation, we took a decision to provide an opportunity for all national teams for whenever competitions open up. We are not spending money and time for nothing but because we expect these girls in the next few years, to become the stars of the Crested Cranes, the national women senior team.
We are into women's football for a purpose. We want the Crested Cranes to go into the World Cup and to compete. If it is not going to come today, it will come tomorrow. But for us to get there, we must start early. We have decided let us start early by giving the young girls an opportunity when it is still early.
Let us give them the platform and expose them for opportunities in Europe and the rest of Africa. We always remind the girls that when you get an opportunity to go out there, always remember that you are carrying the Uganda flag, that you are carrying the aspirations of this Federation and your country to come back as a better player, to come back as a winner.
A big thank you to the @GovUganda, the parents and relatives, teachers, coaches, schools, partners and sponsors, the media, fans among others that have relentlessly supported women football. The girls’ win is was for us all.
