This needs to become the norm in future builds and be retrofitted into existing facilities. It will address both the power and water issue.

@visegrad24 I’ve yet to be told how setting random things on fire is getting people their rights. Also, what rights are they supposedly missing?

Elon Musk understands something that the political establishment desperately wants people to forget.

Government isn’t some magical institution that protects you from concentrated corporate power. It is concentrated power. And unlike corporations, it has the legal authority to use force against you.

Now imagine giving that power to a global government. One political hierarchy. Billions of people. No competing jurisdiction to escape to. No meaningful alternative when the people in charge decide your rights are inconvenient. That’s not progress. That’s the blueprint for the most terrifying monopoly in human history.

Look at what’s happening across Europe.

More authority concentrated in distant institutions. More regulatory power. More restrictions on speech. More decisions made by people ordinary citizens can barely hold accountable.

The answer has always been decentralization, private property, free markets, and the freedom to walk away.

Yet the political left keeps demanding more centralization, more bureaucracy, and more authority over ordinary people. And somehow they call that liberation.

What a fucking joke.

[J.K. Lundblad @JK_Lundblad]

Owen is right.

Look, I don't agree with Musk on everything. Especially in politics, I think he isn't quite as savvy as in his other domains.

But I have watched as most of my family has come to hate him, driven by the media that relentlessly reports his every action in negative framing.

It's tiring.

Elon Musk quite literally saved the US commercial space launch industry.

He saved taxpayers billions of dollars in launch costs.

He restored American manned space access.(Yes, I can say that because despite getting twice as much money, Boeing still can't do it)

He built a global internet system that enriches millions of lives.

He kickstarted the EV revolution and literally built the EV charging network that the Greens so desperately wanted..., and yet they despise him for it.

Yes, his purchase of Twitter was bumpy. But while the media demonized him for mass firings and "selling" blue checks, Zuckerberg et al. did the same a few weeks later with nary a peep.

And look at this platform now. Voice calling, video chats, XMoney, Grok, Articles- it's not the cesspool the media makes it out to be.

In fact, I'd wager old Twitter was worse.

@eigenrobot @bronzeagemantis The thing is that the left have simplistic slogans that can rally people, regardless of their truthfulness.

[Nathan @FullStackNate]

Tax the large asset-backed loans used to access unrealized gains, instead of imposing a direct tax on net worth or unrealized appreciation.

A net-worth tax creates liquidity pressure that can force sales of publicly traded shares by large, concentrated holders. Those sales put downward pressure on the affected stocks and, by extension, on index funds and retirement accounts that hold them. Targeted loan-tax proposals address the specific ‘buy, borrow, die’ preference without those broader effects.

[Ryan @tslryn]

I swear, every time Elon’s net worth moves, the internet collectively forgets how equity ownership works.

His companies become more valuable. His shares become more valuable.

Nobody handed him a fucking suitcase containing $88 billion.

David Friedberg: France’s Crisis Is a Warning for America

“France is a bellwether for the West.

So take a look at this chart. This chart is a measure of public spending as a percent of GDP.

And you can see the comparison of France's public spending as a % of GDP to the peak public spending as a % of GDP of major communist nations.”

@Chamath:

“So do you think France is a communist state? They spend like it.”

@Jason:

“Well, it's certainly been a socialist state, right?”

Chamath:

“Is it working?”

@Friedberg:

“That's my point. And I think this is such a prescient lesson for the West to look at.

We all think that there's some political problem with Macron or whoever it was.

The more the government spends, the worse the conditions get for its people, not the opposite, and then the people riot and revolt.

Take a guess where the US is today. US public spending is roughly 36% of GDP. France today is operating its national government spending deficit is 5.4% of GDP. The US is actually 6.2% of GDP.

France is, I think, probably the first to go because they're only growing their economy at half a percent while the US is growing at 2.3%.

So we're still kind of hanging on because we have some degree of economic growth that's allowing us to kind of hold things together.

But I would argue that we are facing the same sort of fiscal cliff which leads to this extraordinary social unrest as France.

All the economic measures are aligned, we're at the same rate, we're at the same set of problems, and we're starting to see the cracks in the system.

There's probably a multi-year solution.”
