Diane Abbott has had an entire life of horrendous racist abuse simply for being a prominent black woman in politics.
This is a woman whose staff hid the abuse from her because it was so distressing.
Maybe when she describes her own experience — just shut up and listen?
They’re the NHS doctors working through the night. Caring for patients, responding to emergencies, and supporting families - day in, day out.
And they’re paid just £17.56/hr.
Resident doctors are asking for £22.67/hr. That’s what their pay would be if it hadn’t been cut in real terms by 22% since 2008.
Pay restoration isn’t just about fairness.
It’s about making sure those who care for us in our darkest hours are able to keep doing so - now, and in the years ahead.
4 years ago today, I was sectioned. I was depressed, suicidal, and had no hope things would ever improve…
Fast forward to today - I spent my day at work doing a job I love, and am spending my evening surrounded by my favourite people.
Safe to say, things got better!! 😃
Great to be back teaching on The Complete Creative Writing Course this term - six Tuesday evenings online from 18 February. For details and to book go to https://t.co/nxQp9CnoLm #amwriting
The so called headline of ‘1000 more GP’s being recruited’ under Labour to ‘bring back the family doctor’, is nothing more than propaganda.
Out of the 1000 GP target, only 75 have actually been employed. The scheme that Streeting is referring to is called ARRS, and it only applies to hiring newly qualified GP’s with a limited contract timeframe. These newly qualified GPs are also forced to work in multiple practices, which affects continuity of care. Do you want to see multiple GPs, or do you want to see the one that knows *you*?
As ever, these statements from politicians are only snazzy headlines for the sake of it. We need action with substance behind it.
This new plan to increase GP numbers has no substance behind it from @wesstreeting.
There are currently 1000’s of GPs who have been forced to work as Uber drivers, in Tesco, even signing up to Universal Credit, because there are simply no jobs for them.
Increasing training spots for doctors to become GPs with no forward planning from @UKLabour, will simply leave doctors stuck at the end of their training with no actual GP available job for them. Then what?
If @Keir_Starmer wants to shift care into the community, then he will need to address the GP job crisis urgently.
It is a national scandal that the general public are begging to see a doctor, yet we have GPs out of work.
Spare a minute for the U.K medical graduate.
-Managed to get onto an incredibly competitive degree.
-5/6 intense years study
-Saddled with crippling student debt
-Randomly allocated jobs at graduation, with no control or agency
-End up separated from support networks

There are 16 million disabled people in the UK but during the six weeks of campaigning, there’s been little focus on how the main political parties are going to help them.
Ruben Reuter went to find out what they have to offer.
"The problem is, the system itself needs a complete restructuring."
Dan White, Policy Director of Disability Rights UK and a carer himself, says issues with Carer's Allowance have resulted in carers having to repay "unbelievable amounts of money" to the Government.

Remember the government’s pledge to deliver 6000 more GPs by 2024?
They lied.
They used £1.4bn to fund GP replacements by non doctors instead.
Struggling to see a GP now? Trust me, it’s about to get a lot worse….
