I'm from Newtown, CT and for those that don't know, 11 years ago a gunman killed 20 first and second grade kids and 6 adults. Immediately afterwards, Alex Jones, through his online show Infowars, questioned if it was a staged event by government to push through gun legislation. He called the victims child actors and went after the families, empowering his followers to go even further. Grieving families from an unspeakable tragedy faced harassment and even death threats: https://t.co/qjpYfOJ8c4
Now Elon Musk has reinstated Jones on X. Even welcoming him back with open arms in a Spaces in the name of free speech. Jones was sued by the families for defamation and lost. Defamation is not free speech and what he did to these families is unforgivable.
I use X for business and stay out of sharing my personal opinions regarding politics, etc., but cannot financially support a platform that gives this man a platform.
I will continue to use X for my work as I have for years, but am not paying for a blue check anymore. That will disappear in early January. Just know that it will still be me and keep an eye out for impersonators who may have a blue check. I never DM first.

Time to look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself: Are you working as hard as you need to?
If you canโt say you were as prepared, diligent, open, reflective as you could have been, itโs time to take a colder, honest self-assessment.

Take every succesful Pokerplayer (truly succesful).
And you'll find a guy who went through countless downswings, hardships, doubts, rejections, sacrifices,
friends and family not believing in him and countless people talking shit behind his back.
Yes, Poker is fun. It is cool to make a living from it.
But are you willing to sign up for the above?

Strong weekend Champs.
The more time off the table you put in, the more you begin to see patterns so that, finally, after some experimentation, playing and hard work, all of the knowledge becomes part of your unconscious and instinctive understanding
If you truly want to master the game in a comprehensive way, I believe that math is necessary. Even if you hate math, you are indirectly doing math by trying to make winning plays. A strong foundation in math just means your EV estimations are more precise.

"The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting."
If someone is threebetting you in position, then they are playing good aggressive poker.
If you can convince them that you are a tight player? They will not threebet you.
If you are kind to them, they might be more hesitant to threebet you.
It's strange to me too.
"If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles."
The real work takes place away from the felt. Did you take notes on your opponent? Did you put them together and analyze them? Did you go through their statistics? Did you create a scouting report? What plays are you going to use against them?
What are your own leaks? What are you going to do to make sure they don't come up in this session?
How much did you study? Studying should be difficult. Playing should be relaxing.
"He who knows when he can fight and when he cannot, will be victorious."
No Limit Hold'em tournaments require you to pick up every pot you possibly can while still having the wherewithal to realize when it won't work.
What are your bread and butter bets? What is always a losing proposition? Can you execute the folds and raises when the pressure is on?

You should be dreaming all day about how you're going to bust the regs in your game.
If you can bust the recreational players and bust the regs then you can break the game.
Studying should be fun. The anticipation is what we love most.ย

Hot take: Do you think Online Tournament Poker got tougher? Wrong!
Online Tournament poker has become a lot softer over the last few years despite the rise in educational content available. Why? Many ex-crushers gave up their very profitable, exploitative style to make solver-approved plays. Solver-approved plays that are -EV in reality. Making hero calls vs. under-bluffing players, bluffing in situations where the opponent isn't folding enough, etc. Also, not going for those aggressive plays against weaker opponents in deeper stages. "But Ben, isn't a GTO style the most profitable?" YES, in theory. A GTO bot would crush everyone. But you will never reach that level because you are human, not a bot. Nobody plays a "GTO style". We play FRACTIONS of what is considered GTO. And we can't even get close to what is considered GTO. GTO helps you understand the game. Exploitative poker will make you money. We are very far from playing optimal theoretical poker, meaning there is a TON of room to exploit your opponents. I see many former good regulars punting their stacks left and right. This means more money is left on the table, which is good for those who play a solid style and truly understand tournament poker, which is a lot about in-game table selection, future game, and considering your own edge.
This is my opinion. Based on studying with friends, going through hand histories from our community in Discord, and coaching sessions with low- mid-high stakes players who went through this journey. From crushing back to breaking even, they had to admit they got lost in the complexity of GTO.
Remember this: Just because a call is slightly winning doesn't mean it is the correct play FOR YOU. Suppose you consider yourself a good player, are reasonably beating your stakes, and know how to exploit your opponents. Why would you risk your tournament life for a very marginal hero call (unless you have some FG considerations around the money bubble or FT)? You'll get plenty of better opportunities in the next couple of orbits.
