Roman glass bottles like this were used to hold perfumes 🌸, oils 🫒, medicines ⚕️, and other valuable liquids.

Today, Dr. Sophie P. Fuzzcroft 🏺 is examining a Greek Gnathian black-glazed jug dated to around the 4th century BC ⏳, acquired from a London auction 🇬🇧.

Produced in southern Italy during the Hellenistic period, this elegant vessel features a pedestal base, bulbous body, and a waisted neck with an everted rim, decorated with delicate vine motifs 🌿.

Such vessels were used to pour wine 🍷, oil 🫒, or fish sauce 🐟 at the ancient Greek table.

Assisted by Scout Explorer Bennett Octavian Furfinius (sable) 🐾—who has thoroughly inspected the piece for hidden snack compartments 🍖—the team has reached a final conclusion: while the Greeks may have preferred wine 🍷, their ferrets almost certainly preferred salmon oil 🐟. Therefore, this vessel was likely used for that purpose… and even if it wasn’t, it still could be 😄🐾.

Buster (aka “Pudgy”) arrived to us on March 30. 🐾
He has no fur below his shoulders, so he’s missing his natural insulation… which means he radiates heat like a little furnace. 🔥

The other ferrets have figured this out and use him as a pillow 💤, but Pudgy doesn’t seem to mind. 😌
