I’ve been thinking about an angle to the home ownership conversation lately. It’s a bothering trend I’ve seen where Property developers now focus on building fully integrated serviced houses, where even if you own the house you have to forcefully pay millions a year in service fees.

They also build the amenities (power, water, waste, maintenance) to flow through a management company, and make it almost impossible to decouple and pay for yourself.

It seems fancy and all when you’re young and making money, but a few of my retired egbons have complained about the Lekki/Ikoyi/Asokoro houses/flats they bought in last 10 years that cost them more than 1m a month to maintain because they bought in a (mini) estate.
