Of course most Black Catholics who defected remained religious. Most of them joined more progressive, less ritualistic Protestant churches. Vatican II caused that?

@johnamonaco You can look up the statistics. From about 1940 until 1975 there was a major upswing in Black adult conversions to the Catholic Church in the US. Much of it was due to the proliferation of Catholic schools and northern migration.

Then there was a major disaffiliation.
