Today, I received in my office Dr. Felipe Paullier @felipepaullier, the United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Youth Affairs, for a productive and forward-looking engagement on deepening collaboration between Nigeria and the United Nations on youth development.
Our discussions focused on strengthening partnerships to advance youth inclusion, innovation, and participation in governance, while aligning Nigeria’s priorities with the global youth agenda championed by the United Nations Youth Office. I highlighted key interventions of the Ministry, including the Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA), the Youth Help Desk, and our growing focus on youth mental health through the Yo Health Initiative, all of which are designed to expand opportunity, improve access, and empower young Nigerians to thrive.
We also explored areas where technical support and strategic collaboration with the United Nations can help scale impactful programmes, enhance coordination mechanisms, and position Nigerian youth as active contributors to sustainable development and global progress. This engagement reinforces our commitment to ensuring that the voice, energy, and potential of our young people remain central to national and international development efforts.

I joined young leaders at the National Youth Discourse Forum 2025, hosted by the EleniyanCares Leadership Foundation, where I delivered a keynote address on the theme “From Protest to Dialogue.” I shared the story of a young man whose placard once reminded me that youth are not angry because they hate their country, but because they love it too much to give up.
As I told them, progress is not born from protest alone but from dialogue, innovation, and collaboration. Through initiatives like NiYA, YouthCred, and Yo! Health, we are proving that the table of dialogue can become the platform for progress. Together, we will move from protest to progress.
Earlier, I had the honour of visiting Inspaya Academy, where creativity meets innovation. From touring Inspaya Studios and engaging with the team to sharing ideas with the talented STRIDE-40 students, I witnessed firsthand how young Nigerians are rewriting their stories through skill, passion, and purpose. I was deeply humbled to receive the “Tech Champion” Award from the Founder, Ademuyiwa Adebola Taofeek, in recognition of our ongoing work to empower youth through technology and opportunity.
Finally, I received a team from the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) led by the Executive Manager, Aline Mugisho, to discuss ways of enhancing our job-creation strategies in agriculture and strengthening the agricultural value chain. IITA will be partnering with us to implement youth agricultural scaling projects in 10 pilot states as the first phase.

I had the honour of delivering the Goodwill Message at this year’s edition of the Life After School (LAS) Summit hosted by the @NoellaFoundatn in Lagos. Every year, this inspiring platform reminds us that the real journey begins after school, when certificates give way to character, and grades make room for grit. The path from campus to career is rarely easy, but with the right skills, values, and mindset, it becomes a launchpad for greatness.
I reminded the over 500 young graduates in attendance that life will test their patience but never their purpose. I urged them to keep learning, volunteer freely, start small but start strong, and build discipline and meaningful relationships. What they do in the first five years after graduation, I told them, will shape the next fifty years of their lives.
Drawing from my personal journey, I cautioned them against shortcuts that promise wealth but rob them of wisdom, and reminded them never to compare their stories with others, because every destiny has its own clock.
As we continue to empower young Nigerians through initiatives like NiYA, YouthCred, and Yo! Health under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, we are shaping a future where education truly translates to employment, enterprise, and empowerment. Special appreciation to Mrs. Layal Tinubu and the Noella Foundation for their enduring commitment to raising a generation of doers, dreamers, and nation builders.

Our job is to lead from the front, always. Today, alongside the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Afam Josiah Osigwe, SAN, I paid an unscheduled visit to the Kuje Custodial Centre where I related first-hand with officers on duty and inmates at the facility.
At the Ministry of Interior, we are working on partnership opportunities with the NBA, especially in areas of empowering inmates after the completion of their term as well as facilitating Pro Bono litigation service for those awaiting trials.
This way, the Renewed Hope government can further decongest our centres and also prepare inmates for smooth integration into the society to reduce recidivism.
Earlier today, 17 youth-led startups participated and benefitted from the NiYA StartUp Pitch 1.0. They included Trybb Enterprise, Mobile HealthCare Initiative, Project Launch Pad, Agrogrid, Kedu, Acheva Technologies Limited, Heabron, AA Kwakwatawa General Enterprise, Asoro Automotive, BoiBoi Technologies, Smart OPs AI, Smartify, Charge 24/7 Plugzone, ExportPlug, Univille Nigeria Limited, Washup Weekly, and Switched.
This milestone represents another bold step in our collective journey to transform youth creativity into national prosperity. Each of these startups showcased the power of ideas, innovation, and resilience, proving once again that when Nigerian youth rise, our nation rises with them.
Through the Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA), with platforms like NiYA Gigs, NiYA Jobs, NiYA Academy, and now NiYA StartUp, we are building an ecosystem that empowers young people from learning and training to earning and scaling.
Earlier during the official launch of NiYA in March, our partner, Providus Bank, supported six young Nigerians from across the zones. Today, we are supporting 17 StartUps, with a commitment by the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) and other partners to support more young innovators on the NIYA platform.
While these might look like small numbers, we would continue to expand opportunities for young people, one youth at a time. And this is why the NiYA StartUp Pitch 1.0 is more than a competition, it’s a movement that brings together government, the private sector, and development partners to unlock the full potential of our youth as creators, innovators, and global competitors.
To every young innovator and thinker out there, I urge you to keep building, keep believing. The future belongs to you.

In commemoration of the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child, I vacated my seat for Miss Williams Grace, an 18-year-old from Lagos State and winner of the IDG National Leadership Essay Competition, to serve as the Minister for the Day. Grace is a proud graduate of Cedars International College, and she exemplifies the brilliance, confidence, and leadership potential of the Nigerian girl.
This initiative, which we started last year during my time as Minister of State, with 17-year-old Miss Esther Adesanya Adesioye becoming the pioneer one-day Minister, remains a symbolic gesture to reaffirm our commitment to nurturing girls’ leadership and amplifying their voices in national development.
This year’s celebration, themed “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis,” reminds us that girls are no longer waiting to be saved – they are leading change in classrooms, communities, and crisis situations. Today, we celebrate the courage, innovation, and leadership of the Nigerian girl, and we remain committed to ensuring that every girl is empowered to shape her generation and our collective future.
Special thanks to Her Excellency, Hajiya Zainab Nasare Nasir Idris, Wife of Kebbi State Governor, ably represented by Comrade Nura Bala Fingilla, Kebbi State Commissioner for Youth Development, for her remarkable support and presence, which contributed greatly to the success of today’s event. Similarly, I commend our development partners — UNFPA, Gender Mobile Initiative, PLAN International, House of Destiny, and the Lola Cater Foundation — for their unwavering collaboration in mentoring, empowering, and amplifying the voices of girls across Nigeria.
Together, we will continue to build a nation where no girl is left behind, and every girl has the opportunity to learn, lead, and thrive.

Today, I visited Innoson in Nnewi, Anambra State, and doing so on a Monday carries deep symbolism.
In a region where Mondays are often marked by “sit-at-home” restrictions, choosing to work, engage, and collaborate on such a day reflects our collective resolve to keep moving forward, no matter the challenges.
Our delegation was warmly received and conducted round the factory by the Chairman and CEO, Chief Innocent Chukwuma (OFR), whose humility and hands-on commitment to Nigeria’s progress remain truly inspiring. His personal presence underscored not just leadership, but a profound sense of national duty.
At Innoson, I witnessed the living proof of Nigerian innovation and resilience. I am happy to learn that the company is expanding into CNG Vehicle production and conversion, plastic manufacturing, tractor assembly, and even a rice mill, each representing new frontiers for job creation, industrial growth, and youth empowerment.
I also interacted with some of the young Nigerians who have benefited from Innoson’s technical training and apprenticeship programmes, including two remarkable young women trained as auto-technicians. One continues to work at the factory, while the other has already established her own thriving workshop. Their stories beautifully capture the transformative power of skills and opportunity.
What Chief Innocent Chukwuma has built is more than a company, it is a statement of belief that Nigerians can produce excellence. Together, we will expand that belief into a nationwide reality.
As a natural outcome of this visit, we are working on a partnership with Innoson to scale youth training, apprenticeship, and enterprise development across Nigeria, especially within the automotive value chain and allied sectors.
I seized the opportunity of the visit to also engage with the Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Patrick Agha Mba, on how we can deepen collaboration between the Federal and State Governments, particularly to expand the reach and impact of the “1 Youth, 2 Skills” campaign. Together, we are committed to equipping more young Nigerians with practical, income-generating skills that drive self-reliance and productivity across the country.

Earlier today, I had a meeting with H.E. Saad Fahad Almarri, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Nigeria, to discuss strengthening youth collaboration and exploring opportunities for partnership between our two nations.
Later in the day, I joined the opening ceremony of the Youth Creative Conference 2025, where I delivered the welcome address. The YCC, hosted by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development in partnership with the African Union, had in attendance distinguished individuals, including the Honourable Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, @atikuabagudu.
With the theme “Silencing the Guns: Pathways for Peacebuilding in Africa”, the conference brings together young visionaries, policymakers, and international partners to harness creativity and innovation for peace and stability across Africa.

In keeping with the promise made by President @officialABAT in his June 12 Democracy Day address, I have the honour today to launch YouthCred under the national credit initiative (https://t.co/RpCKoeWYU4). With YouthCred, we are offering responsible, fair, and flexible access to credit to help youth meet their needs, start small businesses, and build the future they deserve, starting with members of the @officialnyscng.
As Minister of Youth Development, I understand the daily struggles of our young people. One of the biggest barriers to growth is access to credit—and today, we are changing that narrative. Through YouthCred, Corps members can access starter credit after completing a financial literacy course, and grow their access up to ₦200,000 based on repayment history.
From @NELFUND to YouthCred, we are prioritising youth welfare and doing our best to improve the lives of Nigerian young people. Our focus is on creating real impact through practical solutions that empower and uplift the next generation.
I sincerely thank President Tinubu for turning his words into action. I also extend my deep appreciation to the Managing Director/CEO of CREDICORP, Engr. Uzoma Nwagba, for his visionary leadership, and to the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, for his unwavering support. I encourage our corps members, and ultimately the entire youth of Nigeria, to use credit wisely to improve their livelihood and wellbeing.
