52 years ago (2/19/72) Dad hits one at the horn to crush Auburns dreams securing the first season sweep over the Tigers since the Rocket 8 in 1956.

Dad grew up an Auburn fan, but they told him he wasn’t good enough to play in the SEC. Nice way to prove a point.

Tonight in the raucous and rowdy environment of Neville Arena, the college basketball world focuses on the state of Alabama as @AlabamaMBB and head coach Nate Oats try to extend their winning streak against the Auburn Tigers to four games. The Crimson Tide has not lost to the Tigers since a 100-81 setback on Feb. 1, 2022, in Auburn.

Alabama won the first game this season 79-75 in Coleman Coliseum, and swept Auburn last year 90-85 (OT) in Tuscaloosa and 77-69 in Auburn. Oats is currently 6-3 against Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl. The bitter rivals have played 167 times prior to tonight with Alabama leading the overall series 102-65.

In last year’s victory in Neville Arena, freshman Rylan Griffen sparked the Tide in the second half and finished with a game-high 16 points which included three 3-pointers. In one highlight moment, Griffen blocked a shot by Auburn’s Wendell Green Jr., took the ball and then on the ensuing possession hit a step-back 3-pointer. Mark Sears followed Griffin with 15 points, while Brandon Miller had 13 points and Jaden Bradley 12.

@MPSeale @davidemalone Maybe not positive,but it should 100% be a choice.I agree completely that sports are 2 b fun, but a good portion of these kids don’t enjoy the rec atmosphere when compared to leagues with stiffer competition.I value your opinion & appreciate the conversation.Hope to see you soon.

@MPSeale @davidemalone Of course they don’t, because I am pretty sure MBA doesn’t allow teams to play in the old Jeffco league just like they force kids to play rec basketball.

@MPSeale @davidemalone I understand your point and true travel ball definitely leads to burnout, but those parents made a choice they have to live with. If a child was really good at Math and moved to Advanced classes and my child didn’t, I shouldn’t get upset. Should that kid stay in regular classes?

@MPSeale @davidemalone I am really defending the ability to choose. Parents should do what they believe is best for their family without ridicule. I do believe kids improve by playing better players and it is great to play teams and meet people from other communities.

@MPSeale @davidemalone As long as you were involved I know you did and thanks for your contributions to MBA!! IMO, it can help those players for the “good players” to leave. You combine grades and give these other children the opportunity to handle the ball, shoot more, pitch or play shortstop.

@davidemalone Yes it was, but why mention it at any time when less than a tenth of a percent of HS players play professionally?I know of your vested interest & thank you for that, but if improving the sports programs at MBHS is the goal, why attack those looking for a different experience?

With so many people trying to hire coaches for elementary school sports,please read about the bond created b/w father/child.When parents have the knowledge to coach they need to have the option to do so.Alan was lucky this lasted through HS,but don’t take parents out of the game.
