18.1.2014 10 yrs ago today. C brain tumour journey raising awareness 1997 – 2016

Another appointment at the local hospital to see the Department of Ear, Nose & Throat. They are going to assess the now non-existent hearing of Charlotte's left ear. They say that Charlotte's hearing loss is severe and that simple hearing aids rarely help. Charlotte has been advised to use a device providing contralateral routing of sound. Charlotte will be referred to the audiology department.

Charlotte's hearing loss was attributed either to her brain tumour - which sat on the left hand side of her brain stem - or to the radiotherapy.  Either way she could no longer hear.

This is the ups and downs of living life with a brain tumour.  These are the big bits that are so often omitted.

My mum and brother work tirelessly to put brain cancer on the cancer map. I'm no longer here. I passed when I was 19 years and 5 days old, having spent my 19th birthday in a coma in 2016. That may seem a long time ago, but to my family it will always be yesterday. When I was told that I had a brain tumour, it was the worst 'luck of the draw'.

I loved life and I had so much I wanted to do. I was diagnosed at the age of 16, in 2013. My world fell apart. I was going to start college in September 2013. Instead, I started chemotherapy and radiotherapy. From diagnosis to death, I lasted 31 months.

I kept a diary of my journey post-diagnosis. Occasionally, I got to live a little, so not all days are accounted for. Mum has shared my diary through Twitter - she is trying to raise awareness of one of the most underfunded cancers.

On my journey, I had standard NHS chemotherapy/radiotherapy. Treatment abroad is incredibly expensive. Standard treatment is the norm for the majority of brain tumour sufferers.

Both my mum and brother work full time, as well as running the self-funded charity started in my name. A RT/follow would be appreciated to reach a wider audience.

At last Charlotte  is allowed to come off the potassium. She has developed a strange pain in her arm and said it was far worse today in addition she says her back feels very stiff. She is reluctant to call the hospital as she is worried she will be admitted so we have agreed to wait until the morning. 19 days to go until the next MRI.

I was looking forward to getting married & having children
I was looking forward to a long & happy retirement
But none of that ever happened that’s why I write in the past I left this Earth when I was 19 yrs 5 days on 24.2.2016 since I passed my mother has been raising awareness of brain tumours especially Glioblastoma because that’s the one that took me it was a grade 4 & inoperable as it was on the brain stem I had standard NHS treatment 6 weeks radiotherapy to my brain & spine in addition to chemotherapy why my spine because it had spread there is treatment abroad at a very costly price so it's the exception not the norm to be able to afford it
