More than 402,000 Republicans voted in Oklahoma's gubernatorial primary.

Gentner Drummond and Mike Mazzei advanced while roughly 69% of registered Republicans stayed home. This race wasn't decided by a majority of registered Republicans. It was decided by the 31% Republicans who voted.

Meanwhile, more than 380,000 Oklahoma independents watched from the sidelines, unable to participate in the primary but likely to play a major role in the general election.

Political power often belongs to the people who weren't in the room when the first decision was made. I look for Independents and Legacy Republicans tired of the hate, division, and 15-second fringe statements to sway this election in November.

Political labels are like playground name-calling. As a voter, veteran, and Oklahoman, I don't care about juvenile distractors like MAGA, RINO, Lefty, or who can generate headlines filled with innuendo and distraction from the real issues. I want to know who understands state government, who can work with others, who can improve schools, manage agencies, and leave Oklahoma stronger than they found it.
That's how I'll judge who gets my vote for next governor.

OKLAHOMA: One more reason to vote on August 25, 2026: State Question 844.

Today, Oklahoma's Constitution allows manufacturers to receive a five-year property tax exemption on qualifying facilities. The Constitution also requires the state to reimburse local governments and school districts for the property tax revenue they lose because of that exemption.

SQ 844 would amend the Constitution so that, instead of a constitutional requirement for reimbursement, the Legislature would establish the methodology for determining reimbursement amounts. The constitutional guarantee would be replaced by a process designed by lawmakers.

If future lawmakers choose to reimburse less than the full amount, local schools, libraries, counties, career techs, and EMS districts could be left to absorb the difference.

OKLAHOMA: Why do you need to vote again in August, 2026?
Because Oklahoma already has voter ID, and the legislature wants to control who can vote!
SQ 846 is not just about requiring identification. It would put voter ID into the Constitution while leaving the meaning of “proof of identity” to the Legislature. Do we really want lawmakers defining access to the ballot based on the political whims of the moment?
The amendment is scheduled for the August 25, 2026, ballot.

The First Amendment protects criticism of those in power. America wasn't founded on obedience. It was founded on dissent.
