Curaçao Gaming Authority has confirmed that someone gained unauthorized access to its online gaming portal, and although the breach has now been contained, the regulator is still investigating what information may have been accessed.

That matters because a gambling regulator does not just hold a list of casino names. It can also holds financial information and other sensitive material.

The story gets more serious because cybersecurity researcher [Lilith Wittmann] says she and her collaborators had access to the CGA’s systems for around nine months, and she claims they were able to view licensing, ownership, tax and financial records connected to hundreds of gambling companies.

However, the CGA has not yet confirmed the full scope of those claims, so there is still a difference between what the researcher says was accessed and what the regulator has officially verified.
