“A welfare budget that grows without limit is a moral failure dressed up as kindness…. Conservatives must offer the braver, kinder path”
Well said @PeterABedford 👇
Labour have failed on the economy. The country needs a plan for how to restore growth and turn things around.
That is what the @Conservatives will deliver. A 5 point plan for a stronger economy and a stronger Britain.
My words in @ConHome 👇🏻
The worst thing Bridget Phillipson could have done for social mobility & white working class boys was to take a wrecking ball to the cross party consensus that helped English schools rise up international league tables. It delivered the best readers & writers in the Western world
Rachel Reeves has already increased borrowing by a quarter of a TRILLION over this parliament.
Now Andy Burnham is looking at how he can borrow even more. He doesn’t even know what the fiscal rules are.
Labour are simply addicted to debt.
Fantastic result in my constituency!
22-year-old George Braeckman has taken a ward the Lib Dems have held since 1995.
In one fell swoop he’s ended 3 decades of Lib Dem control and put Reform in third place 🎉
So good to see Young Conservatives stepping up. Congrats, George!
You destroyed working class kids education by reducing funding for the IB and PE with no notice.
You then pretended IB schools could carry on so they took the blame, but families are fully aware you are the problem.
Britain has a history to be proud of.
More than most countries, ours has played a critical role in making the modern world.
Our democratic institutions have inspired other countries to set up their own. Our inventions have transformed people’s lives. Our King and Queen are global icons.
But many of our children are getting a very different message at school, through third party resources being used as a vehicle to push ideology onto children.
A message of guilt. Of shame. Of responsibility for all the world’s ills.
Seven-year-old kids are being told their skin colour is likely to mean they are privileged, while teenagers are being told black people can’t be racist to white people.
Groups like Schools of Sanctuary are promoting pro-illegal migration messaging in the classroom, and Labour Ministers are failing to call it out and intervene.
One of the group’s books, targeted at children as young as five, depicts small boats carrying cartoon animals, as if illegal migration is something cute and cuddly.
One Dorset school had to pull a ‘white guilt’ novel from its curriculum after parental backlash.
There are countless examples from schools where third party resources are being used to push division. We will come down hard on these resources, it is this kind of left-wing ideological nonsense that should be nowhere near our classrooms.
The consequences are clear. For example, huge numbers of young people say they wouldn’t fight for our country.
That’s a problem for all of us, and we have to do something about it.
School should be about learning, not politics. That is why I am working with Baroness Amanda Spielman to look at how we can best stop third-party organisations forcing their political ideology onto kids. The problem goes wider than our schools, of course.
Just look at the ridiculous plans to purge figures like Winston Churchill from our bank notes and replace them with wildlife.
This is just the latest attempt to rewrite our history, casting Britain as the villain regardless of the facts.
We shouldn’t have to put up with this. And we won’t.
The Conservative Party, led by Kemi Badenoch, is proud of our past. Our shared culture is built on our shared history. We will not tolerate attempts to humiliate, embarrass or guilt-trip young people simply because they are British.
The Conservatives will fight the creeping politicisation of schools.
Focussing on grievance leads only to greater division and hatred.
Let’s focus on what unites us – our unique culture – and stand up for it.
My oped for @GBNEWS 👇
Last night we voted against Ed Miliband’s new Net Zero target.
Why? Watch this.
Not a single Labour MP could say what it will mean for the cost of food or energy for our constituents - or for British jobs and industry.
They’re going to spend hundreds of billions of pounds of YOUR money and they didn’t even seem to care what it will mean for you.
Parliament should be better than this.
"I grew up on a council estate" is not an excuse for failure. You are sacrificing the future of generations of kids on the altar of your class envy -reversing even Labour's academy reforms.
0% of teachers think you're doing a great job. I'm not here to give you a pat on the back.
I speak for those people whose lives you're destroying and I'll NEVER stop speaking up for them.
If education policies are going to hurt the life chances of disadvantaged children then we will go after them, regardless of the background of who authored the policy.
@larabirdsnp Crossing your fingers was an act of childish petulance; if you don’t want to serve in a UK parliament, don’t. But don’t make a fool of yourself doing so.
Exactly right. But that has to start with major welfare reform and then expand into cutting away the choking red tape of government - and not nationalising everything that fails.
@KemiBadenoch Conservatives are up for that.
Which other parties are?
AI is transforming our economy, sciences and public services.
Yet the New Luddites would rather obsess about Palantir than patient outcomes.
They will block our own AI capabilities and then lament our reliance on other countries’ technology.
Our policies to change that🧵👇🏾
This tells you everything you need to know about Burnham’s plans.
Rachel Reeves has already increased planned borrowing by a quarter of a TRILLION - but given half a chance Burnham will borrow even more.
We will never fix our economy when the country is being run by people who think borrowing, spending and taxing is the answer to every problem. Labour have a serious debt addiction.
It is NOT ok to experiment on kids as young as 11 and make irreversible changes to their bodies.
We must protect children from dangerous ideology.
Conservatives will not just sit back and let this happen. I refuse to believe MPs, if given the chance, would let this continue. That is why we will force a vote, not just to pause this trial but to stop it completely.
BREAKING: Borrowing is out of control - up by 30% compared to last year - and now we’re about to see what a real left wing Labour government looks like under Andy Burnham.
Burnham claims he is committed to the fiscal rules, yet when asked he could not even say what they are. The bond markets are watching nervously and we have already been paying a Burnham Penalty on our borrowing costs. Meanwhile, Reform have been busy pledging tens of billions in unfunded promises in their desperation to win in Makerfield.
The Conservatives are the only party with a plan to balance the books by getting spending under control, especially the welfare bill, in line with our Golden Economic Rule.
