The Full Stack: how scientists can appreciate their role in the economic engine of society to advocate for increased funding of basic research.

The problem with getting a strange but potentially quite interesting result is that I always assume that the strangeness is because I fucked up one of the 97 data analysis steps that led to this result, and now I have to go back over each one of the 97 steps 10 times each...
Ultrafast nonlinear optics is one of the most complicated and multimode dynamical systems. How can we understand the quantum physics of such phenomena, e.g., supercontinuum generation?
In https://t.co/EvHxQzfCx8, we provide comprehensive analysis on quantum pulse propagations!
Math is not special.
Like any skill, everyone can learn it if they put in the effort. Like playing basketball, guitar, or anything else that takes practice. Math is not special.
If you struggle with it, take comfort in the fact that everyone struggles with it. 🧵
@johnmdudley I prefer a hybrid. Middle of thesis consists basically of papers, but introductions are adjusted to limit repetition. Intro chapters for techniques, science background, and technical development of techniques they did. Optionally incomplete work in appendices.
@InnaVishik@johnmdudley I like this idea. I think it’s important to tie the work together and flesh out the techniques developed. It makes it digestible to other researchers, and providing more detail than the stand-alone papers might make the body of research more beneficial to the field.
Due to a wrist injury, showing new data on a laptop at #APSMarch wasn't happening. Instead, I printed a one-pager that I kept in my back pocket for impromptu discussions. So convenient and effective! I will encourage my students to do this now for conferences.
@thisismattreed I experienced very slow load times at https://t.co/DEPgHzItpj during the Sunday tutorials. Seems like they weren’t ready for the traffic? 🤔
Please help, @APSphysics. When I open the mobile app to see the #APSMarch program, it tries to download updates. This takes forever (and it tells me not to abort), making the app unusable. How do I prevent it from downloading updates?

@Jimalkhalili Loved your appearance in Cunk on Earth. Hilarious! I always wonder with these types of shows, did the guests know they were being interviewed by a comedian ahead of time? Everyone seems to want to give straight answers!
Sushiro is dealing with another incident of “sushi terrorism” - this time from a minor in Kumamoto who decided it’d be funny to spray disinfectant on sushi passing by on the conveyor and upload the gag to social media. The company promises a “strict response”.
