@irishnovelist @tishray Yes. The quoted work suggests it’s either believe in religion or be in despair because your life has no meaning. We already know that religions are invented to help people understand the world and the cosmos. They’re not the only way to do that.

@388shark My mother had six kids, told us “You’ve all had everything!” Meaning measles, chicken pox etc. Then I got chicken pox at 55. Never believe your mother!😬 Calamine lotion, soothing baths, paracetamol to help sleep. Had fevers and bad dreams, eventually it passed. Unpleasant but ok

@wisdom_theory @neal_katyal He was recently on a podcast where the host was asking him about the positive psychology movement and how people can be “happier”. Kahneman said he thought we should focus less on making people happy and more on relieving misery. Affects me every day.

@colonelhogans If I remember correctly, in SA you don’t need to qualify for bail, there is a presumption of bail unless there are reasons not to allow it - as someone else has said, based on various risk factors eg flight risk, potential harm to others etc. Not agreeing just contributing

@parthenope @SallyRCbra Correct. Entitled to stay but not compulsory. Witnesses usually not allowed into the courtroom before they give evidence, so they don’t hear what others say and adjust their evidence. After giving evidence they can stay.

@sameo416 I used to have a glass of water by my bedside. One day the cat ran into the bedroom & onto the bedside table to get behind the bed. This time, she stopped to take a drink from my glass… How many times has she done that before?? Now I have a sealed bottle.
