Gorman says that we are "a country that is bruised but whole." By including this line, the author enforces the idea that we can improve the nation, without making that idea seem unrealistic. It reminds the audience who they are and where they come from.
Amanda Gorman's poem, "The Hill We Climb," was extremely powerful and moving. One strategy she used in her poem was acknowledging the rough past rather than denying it. She claims that America must not try to return to what it was but focus on what it will be. #zapfv
I used to think an essay was supposed to be like a pyramid, a very strict format with not much freedom. I now know an essay is like a tree. It can branch off in any direction and lead to deeper exploration and greater discovery. #zapfv
Billy Collins' poem "Introduction to Poetry" resonated with me because it described how poems should be read. It says we should "hold it up to the light...or press an ear against it," and enjoy the poem. Rather than looking too deep and forcing "a confession out of it".
