'I’d like to see more sailors have the confidence to be open about their identity.'
For as long as Tom can remember he has loved sailing. Tom faced some tough moments being part of the LGBTQIA+ community, fortunately on the water he has only been judged on how he sails.🏳️🌈
@GeorgeMontague2 Sad to hear this news, George was a prominent member our sailing club in its early days. Sincere condolences to Somchai. Rest in peace George
Deeply sad news that George Montague aged 98 affectionately known as #TheOldestGayInTheVillae passed away peacefully on Friday 18th March. His husband Somchai of 25 years was at his bedside.
Here's Tom celebrating as captain of our Silver Medal winning Gay UK Sailing Team (GUST) at the 2018 @gaygames in Paris. He honed his racing skills with @RYACymru, Gresford and Shotwick Lake Sailing clubs.

Ian is a founding member of the club & tapped out the first membership list on a secondhand typewriter soon after the club formed in 1980. He & his husband Mark are still regulars at our south coast rallies #lgbthistorymonth#lgbthm22#sailing#sailingclub#lgbtq#gay#inclusive
When Jack's stolen yacht was discovered in Brazil he had to find a crew to help bring her home. Enduring this long voyage, hiding his sexuality, sparked the idea that became the S&CA in 1980; a community which continues to provide support & camaraderie #lgbthistorymonth#LGBTHM22
@RYA@BBC Thanks @RYA! Our Commodore had a great time chatting to Jack Murley from the BBC during lockdown. Thankfully we went on to have an awesome season in 2021 which we called our Ruby+1 Jubilee! Anyone interested in our club can find out more at https://t.co/flqAzMgQdE 🏳️🌈😊⛵
