RIP and respect to Terry Funk, who passed away onm this date in Pro Wrestling History, August 23rd, 2023 at the age of 78. He won the NWA World Heavyweight Championship in December 1975 by defeating Jack Brisco (stepping in after his brother Dory Jr. was unable to take the match). He held the title for roughly 14 months before dropping it to Harley Race in early 1977. He and Dory Jr. remain the only brothers to both hold the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.

His in-ring career lasted more than 50 years, debuting in 1965 and continuing with matches into the 2010s, . He became especially influential in the hardcore style later in his career, particularly through his work in ECW and Japan. I can’t believe it’s already been three years since he’s been gone. I still miss him every day.
