Raheleh Moeini, a 23-year-old biomedical engineering student at the Polytechnic University of Milan, has been sentenced by an Iranian Revolutionary Court to 2 years and 6 months in prison and a 2-year travel ban after being arrested during the January 2026 anti-government protests.

According to the verdict, she received:

• 18 months for "propaganda against the state"
• 12 months for "assembly and collusion against national security"

Under Iran's sentence consolidation law, she is expected to serve the 18-month prison term.

Moeini was arrested while visiting Iran during the January protests and is currently being held in Qarchak Prison in Varamin, a prison long criticized by human rights organizations over its conditions and treatment of detainees.
