Just wrapped up a super intense week @HIRS_UQ setting up my final PhD field study 🪸 sleepless nights filled with respirometry incubations all made worth it to witness those Heron sunsets ☀️ BIG thanks to @run4coral@GemmaGillette ✨ watch this space! 👀📉
We used a novel genotyping microarray to identify cryptic species and clonal diversity within Acropora hyacinthus on the #GreatBarrierReef 🧬🪸 for restoration practitioners: sample >2m apart to ensure unique genotypes

Big congratulations to @FutureReefslab MSc Student @Rachael__Scott on her Stage 3 Presentation 👏 incredible talk on the Cost-efficiency of Tourism-led Mass Coral Re-planting on the Great Barrier Reef! @CoralNurture 🪸💰
Morning coffee with a heavy dose of climate anxiety, feeling for everyone going through the devestating reef declines in Florida. 💙 Sending love from Australia
The marine heatwave in Florida is brutal - it’s been truly heartbreaking diving our outplant sites these past few days. In just 3.5 weeks, many of our Acerv outplants have bleached completely, and chances of recovery are slim - the hottest months of the year still lie ahead…
Coral reef restoration has not failed.
Thanks to all the efforts that for decades, several restoration practitioners and management agencies have undertaken to propagate these two species, we may have saved these species from local extinction!

Very surreal to press ‘submit’ on my thesis today! A day I’ve been anticipating for the past (almost) 4 years. 🎉🥹🪸🧫💙
Time to process, decompress and breathe a little (and eat copious amounts of delicious food).
#SeeSomethingSaySomething NOAA declares arrival of El Nino & widespread bleaching is anticipated. We launched https://t.co/fBvQA5BcJp to match satellite-based data w/ real-world underwater observations & as outreach tool to trace how things unfold @UniKonstanz@ICRSreefstudent
